Hi All

i recently purchased a 911 SC, which I have to say I am loving. The car is in great condition having been subject to a restoration by a Porsche Centre in 2014, and serviced by them ever since.

The car is shortly due a service and I am considering a Porsche main dealer, probably the centre that did the restoration and serviced ever since under the Porsche Classic scheme, or whether to go to a well respected air cooled specialist my local one being Paul Stephens who are just down the road.

Any advice would be appreciated and will post some pictures when I can work out how to…

thanks
I would go the Paul Stephens route. Good reputation, and well respected within Porsche circles.

If you are happy with car and the resto work that has been done to it by the Porsche Center and subsequent services I would probably go there as they should know the car pretty well and this sometimes can be very helpful. Then on the other side of the coin, bringing it to someone know like Paul Stephens might pick up some things that OPC have not seen/done etc etc, a fresh pair of eyes is also sometimes helpful. So no right or wrong with either, just go with what you feel most confident with.

glad you loving your SC, just be careful they are very addictive :ROFLMAO:

I found over the years that the Main Dealers were losing the engineering expertise for older Porsches - not surprising really, as they tend to concentrate on new customers. My personal opinion, of course. The Service Record was all Main Dealers until a few years ago, but I have no concerns going independent. I'd go to the local place and perhaps ask them for an inspection report as well as the service.

Hope this helps.

Not had any experience with OPCs for servicing on my 993 but I think it is a common belief that the knowledge for air-cooled cars can be quite thin on the ground. Shouldn't be really but as cars get older the skills disappear and owners use independents, normally with a considerable cost-saving, too.

I've bought from PS and at the time he used Autostrasse at Coggeshall. To be honest, the first 911 (an IB) wasn't that well looked at by them prior to my purchase; various issues that should have been found and rectified before sale. Fortunately, Paul was very good with the after-care and ensured the faults were put right, although I had the inconvenience, of course. I understand he now has his own technicians on site so would hope the servicing and pre-delivery stuff is much better; he does have a god reputation for Porsche.

I use Tony Ruggles at Carrera Engineering in Nazeing. He's looked after the 993 for me since 2010 and for the previous owner (and his previous Porsches and dailies) prior to that. He owns an early 911 Targa and is very knowledgeable. Tony also conducts PPIs and is very exacting and meticulous with his report. That said, I appreciate the convenience of PS for you and I'm confident you will receive good service from him.

Thanks all for the comments really helpful. I’ve booked to go and have a chat with Paul Stephens to get it serviced through him given the air cooled experience.

Loving The SC, not driven an air cooled car before owning this one and they are very special. Was a real poster car for me growing up and glad it drives as good as it looks. Really different to my 991.2 gt3, but the wife definitely enjoys drives in it more than the gt3, which feels like you are setting lap times at the Nurburgring.

thanks again all
