Inspection needed

Hi all,

I bought a 991.1 C4S a little over a month ago with an aftermarket 3 month warranty on it.

There’s nothing wrong with the car, but I’m thinking I should get an inspection done before the warranty runs out - just to sort out any niggles I don’t know about…

My question is, should I get the inspection done at OPC or at an independent? My gut reaction is to use an independent but the car has always been to OPC so keen to get your thought.

Thanks in advance
Trevor

I was informed by my service guy at Porsche Bristol last week that Porsche no longer require a 111-point inspection to qualify for their extended warranty. Mine is due for renewal in December. Anyone heard about this?

As far as I'm aware as long as it's continuing an existing extended warranty and has been serviced by them in accordance with the maintenance schedule then they will provide a new extended warranty without the 111 check. But I'm sure they will explain the criteria better than me!

Yes that sounds reasonable.

We had a similar idea with putting an OPC warranty on a nice 981 acquired in June this year. The 3 month supplying dealer warranty and the 90 days ownership needed ran out in early Sept, so had a free health check done by Teeside OPC whilst still on 3 month warranty and to see what work could be expected to be required for the OPC warranty.
The health check turned up non Porche battery, Zunsport grilles and leaking exhaust gasket with corroded flanges bolts……so duly had those items sorted, grilles removed etc at a cost of £500+ and then paid £216 for 111 point pre warranty check expecting not much further work to be needed to get car onto the OPC warranty.
Big mistake.
The 111 point checked came back with £5k additional work, and included items passed on health check performed 4 weeks and 1k miles earlier…..?
Needless to say we took 2 steps back and decided the OPC warranty work was taking the Michael.
£5k and further £1200 for the 24 month OPC warranty is not economic as likihood £6k of faults arising over next 2 years is pretty low!
The moral of the story is think very carefully before proceeding with warranty checks, and if you do then expect a £5-10k bill to get the car onto warranty.
Unfortunatey got the impression Teeside OPC were just seeking to either inflate the warranty work or the health check is useless….. draw you own conclusions!

Last time I renewed my existing Porsche extended warranty they insisted on the 111 test.…..this time not.

Having bought my 8 year old C4S in Aug this year, I had to wait the 90 days before applying to put it on the Porsche warranty.
As per Temmplar, I have enjoyed the benefit of a complimentary health check at my local Porsche centre, nothing other than tyre sealant out of date and "service" highlighted in the Yellow tick boxes, so all in all pretty pleased. My ideal was to get my C4S on to the Porsche STAND ALONE warranty at circa £3k for three years cover.
The mention of "service" in the yellow tick box, was no great concern and I assumed that it related to the last one and only service performed outside the OPC network, which was an intermediate and performed by a recognised Porsche specialist who employs Porsche trained technicians and promotes the use of Mobil 1 oils..... So no big deal then..?
I thought just perform the the intermediate service over again at the OPC, then have the 111 point check carried out and that would be my Porsche acceptable on to the warranty... Easy peasy....?
Err, well NO.
Apparently it has to be put through the 4 year full service regime, and looking at the last time the cam belt was changed it would be wise to have that done too, and only AFTER that will the 111point check be carried out to determine whether it might be eligible to put on to the warranty programme....!
Before you ask, it too has miserably corroded exhaust flange nuts/bolts, as expected given the poor quality these particular components which Porsche seem to be using at the time it was built...I suspect they should be programmed in for replacement at each 4 year service, to save the possible extra effort to the remove corroded fixings...?
Now watching time tick by until it`s pre-booked visit to my local OPC is due....I will remove the ZunnSport grilles, while also hoping to avoid the drama that Temmplar experienced.. Time will tell.

In the off chance there might still be any interest in this thread on which the OP has not replied to those kind enough to share their experiences, I thought to update it with my own travels along the "inspection" route.
As someone who ever worked on my own m/cycles and cars over very many years, it was bound to be a bit of an unusual experience to hand my car recently purchased now 9 year old C4S over to others to criticise it, nervous times indeed, perhaps more so having read reports that that an OPC can seemingly charge more than the light brigade...?
The 111 point checks kicked up that there were errors relating to the alarm siren which would cause it to fall below the requirements of those necessary to be accepted on to the warranty/insurance scheme, thus in order to resolve that issue the siren replacement was required..
Further to the Siren, it was pointed out that there was mild corrosion on the inner faces of the front discs, but not to the extent it would cause any issues relative to guarantee acceptance.
Overall approaching 44k miles I am happy to have the comfort of the Porsche backed guarantee/policy given the history of potential water cooled engine issues and and the complexity that the mix of ever evolving regulation and advancing technology applied to the ICE propelled sports cars of which I am so very fond.
