986 brake replacement

Morning all,
had a brake check message on my 2004 Boxster 986.2 recently, so took it into KwikFit for a check, who I have trusted for other work, and was advised it needs front discs and pads at a cost of £320 fitted.
so just wondered from other 986 owners, does this sound about right?
Thanks ??

Richard,

If you have a look on CarParts4less or similar you’ll be able to get an idea of what’s available for your Boxster … about £200 for Pagid discs, pads and wear sensors by the look of it. Sebro discs and Textar pads probably are closest to Porsche spec. I’d ask KwikFit what they plan to fit.

You may also want to think about changing the (anti-squeal) damping pads too, something which is often overlooked.

Seems reasonable. Design911 is another site you can use for comparative prices. As before check it is a good brand they are using

Thanks for the speedy replies as ever.
Just as a footnote, I asked for a quote from our very helpful local OPC and it came out at £810, so while I appreciate that is for a pukka job with original parts etc., it makes the KwikFit price good value for my car ?? but I will check the parts they will be using….

From previous experience on other cars, personally I’d never let my local KwikFit "fitters” anywhere near my Cayman, but clearly you have a very difference experience with yours Richard … which is fine.

I suspect that they’ll use Euro Car Parts to supply and deliver the parts to them, so more than likely they’ll be Pagid components.

The Porsche Centre price you’ve quoted probably is about right, even with a Club 10% discount on parts. It’s their labour charge which is the killer (£150/hour?), although official Porsche parts are much more expensive.

Thanks again for all the advice on my 986 brake replacement, so I had a rethink, and was recommended by another member to a local specialist who will do the job.He advised me to order the parts from Design911 so Brembo disks and pads, wear indicators and pin kit, screws & bolts are on the way (for info: £211 total). Hopefully be sorted this Wednesday!
