As life slowly heads back to a more normal pace post-Covid, I've been asked to bring to the attention of R7 members, an event at The Motorist Hub and their upcoming event ‘Curry and Classics’ running on Thursday 15th July . The free to attend event invites owners of pre 2000 registered cars to join them for a meet, with curries on offer from 5-9pm including vegetarian options.

They also have parking for post 2000 cars, so please do still join them if your cherished classic is ‘in progress’. So if you want to attend, just turn up and enjoy, no need to contact me on the forum unless I can be of assistance. (r7@porscheclubgb.com)

The Motorist Hub, located in Sherburn-in-Elmet is more than your average garage and fast becoming a hotspot for classic cars, supercars, rare forgotten gems and interesting vehicles from the UK and beyond. The Motorist is comprised of several elements; our workshop which provides service and MOTs for daily drivers, cherished classics and specialist vehicles; our showroom which is always well stocked with classic, retro and vintage vehicles for sales; and our café which serves a selection of fantastic snacks, meals and beverages.

No two days are the same at The Motorist, which is why we are seeing visitors return week after week for our array of organised meets and events which are planned throughout the week and at weekends and to visit our café which serves a range of different foods with specialist dietary options available.

As the year progresses, we are seeing a sharp increase in clubs and groups make enquiries around hosting branch and region meets at The Motorist in addition to specialist regional and national rallies. At The Motorist, we have more than enough space to cater for your every need onsite, with parking for over 500 cars in addition to our excellent café which can host your members in comfort. We can also provide interest for your group and with prior arrangement, we can give you an exclusive workshop tour and a chance to look around our showroom. There is always something interesting in our workshop, from a pre-war Alvis to a project Ford Mexico, there is never a dull moment in The Motorist workshop!

I plan to be there, not sure if the 993 will be back in time but the Boxster meets the age criteria.

Any reviews on the evening ? I had an early visit in the old AC but didn’t partake in the curry as I had other plans. The Porsche is too new. I saw a few member badges but no one near their cars which may mean that the curry was too alluring. The coffee was nice but the queuing was getting silly. Loads of cars arriving as I was leaving so I think it may of been extremely busy ! Was it ?
Maybe not so much a classic event in the old fashion meaning but lots of souped up and pimped we’re heading that way to make a bit of interest in the more modern stuff.

It was a great evening, weather obviously helped as it was gorgeous. Really good turn out with a good selection of cars, the lamb curry was nice, chicken a bit bland, can't comment on the cauliflower curry as I'm not weird enough to want to try that. I've since heard that quite a few cars were turned away around 7ish which wasn't good especially for people who had a decent drive over - we got there about 6.15 and drove up from Sheffield. In total there were about a dozen of 'Us' which made the evening even better, as it usually does, and there was a group of 9 that were roughly the last to leave, again as usual. [:)] The only real complaints were the long queue times for the food, but to be fair they don't know how many people to cater for as it's not a ticketed event. All in all a great night out made better spending it with good friends. The enthusiastic drive there and back on some nice roads was just the icing on the cake.
