No more after market stick on dash cams and dangling cables.
Porsche Dash Cam installed in my new Macan GTS today.
Great product plus the usual terrific service from Dick Lovett Porsche. Swindon.

I have been thinking of having one for our cars, did the Porsche Centre fit it? is the wiring integrated into the vehicle rather than having leads into the charging points?

Any more details welcome.

Regards David

Yes, Porsche Swindon Installed the Dash Cam.

Fully integrated. no leads showing, looks like a factory option.

You say "no leads showing" what is the black cable-like item coming out of the rear of the camera, please?

Also, it says in the description, there is an app - so I assume manual controls are on the unit itself and the camera can also be controlled remotely from your phone, is that correct?

Does the camera record events in a number of short file packets or does it do so in one continuous loop i.e. like a GoPro, and overwrite when the memory card is full?

Perhaps this is a LHD version, as when it is put on ‘their’ passenger side, the downward support and cable would be next to the centre mirror support and be less noticeable .

Therefore we should have a RHD version for UK cars…..

No response from the OP as yet but I did manage to obtain the following info from an American site:-

The Porsche Dashcam is suitable for making videos of driving situations and parking manoeuvres. It is operated via a special app where all settings can be carried out. Recorded videos are saved on the supplied SD card and continuously overwritten. If the Dashcam detects a strong vibration or the radar sensor is triggered, the recorded video is stored separately and is not overwritten. Recordings can be downloaded directly from the SD card or via the app.

"Drive" Mode: Recording begins automatically when the engine is started. If a vibration event occurs, the 10 seconds before the event and the time after the event are stored separately. The vibration sensor can be disabled for filming on the race track using the "Continuous" setting in the app. "Park" mode: During parking manoeuvres, the Dashcam is in sleep mode but ready for operation. Recording is triggered by the radar sensor or the vibration sensor. The duration and scope of sleep mode vary depending on the vehicle model and equipment. Details: [ul][*]Video recording in QHD[*]Audio recording (can be disabled)[*]GPS sensor[*]Radar sensor for recording a video if an object approaches the vehicle (depending on vehicle model and equipment)[*]Vibration sensor (depending on vehicle model)[*]Lens with polarization filter for reducing reflections and improving color and contrast[*]Windscreen bracket for secure mounting[*]Includes camera and mounting and vehicle cable set[/ul] Intended for models pre-wired for this option, but can be retrofitted to cars which are not prewired: [ul][*]All Taycan models[*]All Boxster models - 2017-2022[*]All Cayman models - 2017-2022[*]All Macan models - 2019-2022[*]All Panamera models - 2017-2022[*]All Cayenne models - 2019-2022[/ul]Installation details are coming soon. Professional installation required. Hope this helps anyone looking to invest in this new accessory. Regards, Clive

Hi Clive, I wrote "No dangling cables", referring to my previous and other dash cams which connect into the 12v socket in the centre console. There is a power lead of course which is only 80mm long and laid very neatly against the windshield into the centre switch panel. Its a neat job.

Your reply to your other questions are correct as in the UK version of the instruction manual which is also very well put set out.

Thanks for your follow up.

You actually wrote, "Fully integrated. no leads showing, looks like a factory option." So I was just trying to clarify in more detail how the completed installation looked. Maybe a slightly wider angle photo would help when you have the time.

BTW I have added your post to the Register's "Technically Speaking" index as I'm sure this topic will be of interest to fellow members who might be considering this accessory in the future.

Thanks for your link, but it isn't really clear, it states front mounted camera so i presume it is capturing images in forward direction only, probably left ambiguous for a reason.

Million USD question - How much was it ?

The US price is around £350 ($475) + fitting, so that seems quite a pricey piece of kit compared to available aftermarket units.

Maybe the OP would be prepared to let us know the total UK cost when fitted to the Macan.

I enquired to my local OPC today and the 'Parts' price is £420 and the total fitted price inc VAT and my 10% PCGB Parts discount was a whooping £960 !!!

I wouldn't pay the sort of money they ask at the OPC.

I have an Apeman that does much the same for less than £50 and it has a rear cam too!

Had one in my car and one in the wifes for years now with no issue at all.

Did BazDen pay this much? Would be interested to hear. I really can't understand why these items aren't integrated into the PCM these days (front and rear cameras).

Looking at this for my new Cayman, I have front and rear Thinkware cameras fitted to my 911. Just wondering how this would affect the warranty on new cars if you went outside the brand?

As long as they are not hard wired in you will be fine.

I have had them fitted in my current and previous Porsche cars and they have all been serviced under warranty at the OPC with no issues at all.
