Am I right in thinking...PDK downshifts “failsafe”

Yes - that is what I meant, managed to downshift from 3rd to 2nd....rather an upshift to 4th....(facepalm)

 
Hi - am I right in thinking PDK won’t allow a downshift if it is not safe to do so.....
 
Luckily Porsches come with 8000 rpm as standard! Engine protection is one of the seldom considered advantages of the PDK.

 
I might be guilty of downshifting unnecessarily to listen to that lovely PDK blip and the resulting PSE crackles :)

Over Rev protection is just a bonus :)

 
Won't let you stall and won't let you over rev - i think there is some theoretical way if slipstreaming something downhill where in theory gravity and momentum can make the gearbox "push" the engine too fast - but I think you would have to try really hard.

as others have said - one of the best features of a pdk ( apparently OPC's don't even look at the dreaded rev ranges on PDK cars) - and its glorious when travelling at 60+ and you "blip" ( go to the floor, not kickdown, and come straight back up) and it drops to its lowest viable gear with usable revs and gets all "excited"
