I was fortunate enough to grab a couple of hours to attend the weekend (no spectator) hill climb event at Forrestburn to grab a few pics around the pits. The event is organised by the Monklands Sporting Car Club. Amongst the many competitors and variety of interesting machinery there was not one Porsche to be found... ! Guess lunches and track days may be about as sporting as Scots Porsche folk are into these days..? (-: Seems the MX5 guys are really into it big time judging by the amount of them competing..? URL below gives competitor listing and results for any who might be interested

Also if any might be REALLY interested it seems there is a ready made Porsche in the Aberdeen area advertised for sale and ready made for hill climbs on Piston heads...

If you are really really interested, there is a vid available of a trip up the Forrestburn hill at race speed if you use the link below and find Stuart Dow`s vid of his run up the hill on Sunday last.

interesting.. or not...?

Thanks ... interesting - yes !

I used to compete there some years back, Mk1 Golf GTI :p A superb track / hill and unlikely to suit a Porsche  , as is my local hill at Fintray. Recall pulling one of those 911`s out of the trees a while back [:-]

I am pleased that you found some interest in the Forrestburn post. I have attended more Production Car Trials (PCT`s) there than Track events.
I wonder if Mr Porsche is spinning in his grave when it might be suggested his cars may not be suited for competing tight twisting track, though to be fair it does seem that later models became a tad more..err..rotund..?
Apologies, it seems possible that the "successful" 911 hill climb special that was in the link I posted may have been sold thus the link does not take you to it any longer, it was an interesting machine.

Perhaps competitive would have been a more suitable term [;)] ... anything that I can do to keep Mr P spinning is surely a positive :p ?

The link worked for me yesterday

One of the guys on here Donald McDonald does Forrestburn also Boness .Years ago the club got an invite to drive our Porsches up the track not competitively but it is so narrow was scary in parts .

Thanks for the heads-up Brian, I know of Don and his good lady as stalwarts of Scottish motor-sport, having met them through other than Porsche connections.
I also think Colin Robertson long time Porsche fan from the Scottish Borders ran his air cooled 911 up the hill at Boness. I suspect since 911 derivatives went to water-cooling, perhaps attained GT status and dimensions, squeezing them up a narrow "hill" may seem less than fun unless one has money to burn..? However I might have thought some of the Boxter derivatives might have been up for it... Not in any way being critical for I doubt I would have what it takes to do it myself..

Yes CR does do the Boness hill climb in his older air cooled car ,sadly be had a health scare at the last one and was admitted to the local hospital for a few days ,his car was looked after by fellow competitor Paul Farrell the Edinburgh Porsche dealer principal back at the dealership ,we have a few Tipec members also do this event one being a fast lady who has shown the guys a clean pair of heels .
Just back from a 3 day trip stayed at Inveraray with 20 other Porsche owners visited Tarbert /Campbeltown via the B8001 and B842 on the Saturday and a visit to Machrihanish air strip where we got the chance to race the runway some got 3 goes 1 was enough for me best time on the day was 18.13 150mph in a gt2 .[:D] some very nice roads around this area and a bonus was wall to wall sunshine

Thanks for the heads-up Brian, I had not heard of CR`s unfortunate episode. I think last time I saw he and his good lady was when a few of the Porsche crew broke their journey at our place while heading back South having spent a few days at Loch Melfort and Crinnan.

This is me about to start work at a very wet Forrestburn on Stuart Dow’s car after he broke a driveshaft. Not the same car he has today though.
