Hunting idle / Throttle to start

Hi Guys,

Hoping someone can help me out, I may just need to take it for a hard blast but before I do, if anyone has any pointers here, that would be great.

I recently fitted new coils, rotor arms, caps, plugs and performed a distributor rebuild. I did all of this as it had developed a misfire which has now been resolved.

However, I used to be able to turn the key and it would fire instantly, however now, when cold, I have to apply some throttle.

Once started, the revs seems to be going up and down as you can hear in the video below.

https://youtu.be/spbFu9f2XXc

if I unplug the ISV, the car dies. I can hear a mild hissing up at the top of the engine, seems to be around the black cylinderical thing but I think it is just the air passing through it internally and not an external leak, I did mist some water around the area and didn't spot it being blown around.

I haven’t done anything as yet in terms of cleaning the ISV, MAF, etc but does anyone have any ideas on why the idle isn’t perfect and I need to apply throttle to start?

Thanks
Mark

Mark,

If you think the ISV is not stuck and everything else is connected and not leaking, perhaps try a 964 System Adaption as it does seem to fix a lot of odd behaviours and all the ignition has been replaced ?

I did one recently after replacing the O2 sensor and its quite different after the Adaption as I ran it pre with just the new sensor.

Thank you!

I had just seen another post on another forum mentioning this, especially on my ca which always has it's battery disconnected.

However, I do not have the scan tool to do it with. What do you use?

I actually need someone with PIWIS for my Cayenne! My basic code reader doesn't quite cut it with these Porsches.

I use the Porsche Bosch Hammer to do this ...Tore has then for sale but I brought mine decades ago . sorry I dont have the PIWIS .

I think it will fix your issue

Im in Guildford if you can get the car over ?

Hi Ian!

I think I will have to take you up on that, I'm just down in Sutton, nice A3 sprint.

Just to add, I have changed a few things, inc the o2 sensor and not done any adaptations.

When the weathers better, I wouldn't mind popping up to see what you can do and talk 964!

I have a 2 hour+ drive with the family in the car planned for July, so want to make sure it's good for that.

Thank you!

Mark , if you have changed O2 you need to do a adaptation to get the best from any new H/W , drop me (PM) line so we can sort it for you .
