991.2 GTS regular Unleaded

Anyone run their 991.2 on regular unleaded. I cant find Porsche statement on this ie never, yes but reduced performance, only in emergencies. Anyone ?
 
Regular unleaded is OK if nothing else is available, but use 97, 98 or 99 octane when available. It's cleaner fuel, kinder to the engine and maximises performance potential. Little point investing loads of cash in a high performance sports car that's not fully performing!

If you join PCGB you are entitled to an Esso fuel card and can then obtain discounted 99 octane fuel.

Does it state anywhere that 95 ron is ok to use ? I understand the relative merits of higher octane and more importantly additives.
 
Recommended fuel is 98 RON, alternative fuel needs to be at least 95 RON. If the recommended fuel is not available unleaded fuel without metallic additives as low as 91 RON can be used in an emergency, but it will reduce performance and increase fuel consumption and you are advised not to use full throttle.

Ok thanks for that. So 95 isnt going to do any detonation damage even if its suboptimal.
 
Well, as someone who understands the relative merits of higher octane fuel, you will be aware, of course, that sensors within the car monitor for when optimum fuel is not being used and ECU software will retard the ignition to prevent detonation and serious engine damage. This will become evident by reduced performance and higher fuel consumption.

Yes the knock sensor but its a crude ECU input in reality just wanted to be sure it has one as my AMG didnt have one believe it or not. Also 95 RON at the pump is often significantly more than 95 plus a 50/50 blend of 95/99 is 97 RON.

I did look in the manual but couldnt see it. I looked again just now and found it in refuelling rather than specification and indeed 95 is ok. Thanks all.


 
Is any one else finding it increasingly hard to find 98 Ron ? ... fortunately the local Tesco still does 99 ... but otherwise it seems to be getting tricky. So the above is good news :)
 
Perfectly normal practice I’m afraid Nigel. And usually it’s from the nearest supermarket too!

In the UK we’re very fortunate to have good quality fuel available, so I wouldn’t be concerned about using 95-octane if 98-octane isn’t available. Knock sensor technology is well-developed and Porsche will have tuned the engine to be tolerant of lower octane fuels without any damage being done.

Hi all, reading this thread 95 Ron should not be a problem on a one off. However my 991.1 turbo was on last few miles and I had no choice but to put BP 95 Ron in usually I put in 99 Ron every time or at least 97 on odd occasion if forced, but this garage never even had that. So i only put 40 in to get me by. However it’s now made the car run absolutely awful I really didn’t think it would make any difference. it’s like the turbo is not at its best and more engine Rev. it’s really that bad I’m thinking about taking it in, thank god I purchased two years extra warranty couple of months back. I’ve checked the oil and water, fine, no error messages but it’s way way off performance. should I fill it up with 99 or run the 40 quid down or just get it back to Porsche, previous it had a new turbo fitted by Porsche under opc maybe it’s effected that again.

Fill up with 99 RON, see how it goes and speak to your dealer ...
 
Drove again definitely something more than fuel probably turbo they fitted. Local One opc can’t see it until 19th of July and next one which further no courtesy cars so complete pain to get back. Oh I’m going off this brand quickly
 
Are you under warranty, either factory or Porsche extended warranty? If so you could call it in and they’ll collect and deliver to the dealer, hopefully of your choice. At least they then have the car and are obliged to repair it if a problem is identified and you should be eligible for a courtesy car of some kind, though not necessarily a Porsche.

Yes I have full Porsche extended warranty for next two years, I just had a 111 check. They said one of the turbo looked like it was leaking. I said the one you replaced, no, no… turn up oh yes it was forget the 280 to investigate it’s fine bring it back in 1k we’ll check it again. They had it on the system wrong way as previously they caused me delay ordering the wrong side from Germany. 700 miles on I suspect it is that again. Just sick of paying top prices for back street garage service. Btw this car only has 26k on the clock.
 
I can fully understand your frustration its not good enough. The only way this could be fuel is if its contaminated in some way like with water. I doubt it however from your description as it seems more likely a technical issue. You would think they would want to fix asap if there is any possibility they screwed up. Unfortunately Porsche is rapidly being brought into line with VAG group ways which is a bad thing.
 
Well just filled the tank with 99 Ron definitely felt better but again off the mark. Thing that puzzled me is why no errors coming up. I agree with the VAG point that’s exactly how it feels like I’ve rocked up in a 2nd hand polo. I phoned up Porsche customer service not really bothered tbh. it’s like the technician gave a video appraisal just said a odd comment the air holes on the discs need cleaning. Turn up some numpty decided to try it on with an advisory disc need replacement 3k erm it’s done 26k and how did it jump to that. Said oh well just don’t track it… it’s a rag top and I don’t track my car. Just think we are cash cows Funny only time I’ve known I was in a so called top brand garage when it comes to prices!??
