Finally paid deposit on a GTS. I am hoping to get the car for April 2022. I always wanted a GTS when they came out in the 981, But could not afford at the time. Was lucky my local OPC managed to attain a car last weekend for a test drive. Were given keys and told bring it back when you like. The wife and I both loved it. There were two ex demonstrators for sale in Belfast OPC. Because of Lockdown they had virtually no miles on them at all. I made a similar comment on another recent post Andrew. A while ago when the 981 GT4 came out I remember the Porsche dealers getting their knuckles rapped by Porsche UK for taking deposits without offering an actual build-slot, but maybe under the current circumstances a more relaxed attitude is being taken, regrettably IMO. The ride was perfect in my opinion, firm but comfy, Very much sharper and direct than my car. Really inspired you to drive quickly and push on. The sound is not as good as my car but still is a massive improvement over the F4T. I would be very interested to here from owners of 4.0ltr cars who have fitted a after market exhaust, As this is something I would do to make the car perfect. Can not make my mind up which gear box to go for,have a manual now and thought i would get the same. As is a drivers car. But before driving the GTS, Went out in a 718 S with PDK. Having never tried before, Was totally blown away with how fast and smooth it changed. Its like it reads your mind. Glenn Quote Reply #12

There’s no doubting that the PDK ‘box is one of the best available - if not the best - and although I’ve driven both PDK Boxsters and Caymans for the odd day when my car’s been in for service, I still prefer the extra engagement provided by a manual ‘box for a limited-use fun car. In spite of the increasing popularity of PDK it’s great that we still have the choice, and as we move rapidly toward the world of EVs the terms auto or manual transmission will become obsolete and a manual ‘box will become a novelty … and maybe command a premium price too in the used car market! The manual is a superb gearbox and is a delight to use. No point fiddling about with temperature and fan controls in a car of that price … ridiculous that it’s an option IMO, and maybe even more appropriate for driving in inclement weather! The same goes for Auto-dimming Mirrors/Auto Wipers, which I’d include. Along similar lines, is there any point in spec’ing BOSE? I’m sure that the standard system is more than adequate for an open-top car. Spend the money on the above options instead. I’d never want to use the tyre sealing compound (mine’s sat unopened for nearly 12-years!), and the tyre fitters hate it because they have to remove all the gunge before they can fit the repaired or new tyre. Best to call out recovery. 👍 on the Smoking Package. The hole in the centre console looks very cheap and nasty. Why can’t Porsche just put a lid on it in the first place rather than charging the ridiculous sum of £38 (stingy!). I’d be having words with the salesman if he tried charging me for that option! I’m a function over style sort of chap, so unfortunately can’t advise on colour schemes, etc., but choose exactly what YOU like. I have never used the air-con in my car only the heater, so climate would be a waste. Only goes out on sunny days. no auto wipers needed. The reason for tyre sealant is for the compressor and would never use the gunk. Love the Bose as plenty of punch to the sound, unlike the base system.Totally agree with the smoking package. The dual climate might be a waste of time in such a small cabin so I didn’t opt for it. Parking sensors are a must for me but the camera is not really a true image and can take some getting used to but yours will have sensors fit anyway. The smoking package makes the hole ridiculously small and only useful for a couple of coins or ash. At least with it open you can get a packet of tic- tacs in it. The multi function wheel is useful having experienced it on other vehicles and leather is better resistant to sweaty palms. Cruise control yes but the rest no thanks. Porsche entry makes theft easier. Home link only works from the car so you need your remote to firstly get into the garage to see the car so you have it with you anyway. Power steering plus, yes but ceramic brakes are too much for most folk unless posing. light packages more for good looks than driving as it’s a lot less fun driving in the dark. Plain seats unless more than one driver, too many motors not used otherwise. Folding mirrors so you can see you have locked it when walking away. Bose yes. We all appreciate quality ABBA tunes. What about when for some reason the car’s been left outside with the hood up and there’s a lot of internal condensation? Running the aircon will clear it almost immediately. Aircon isn’t just for the hot weather. And Colin, because the cabin is small that’s precisely why climate control is advantageous because the temperature can change rapidly in different weather conditions e.g. sunny to overcast to rain. It controls the temperature and volume automatically (and indirectly humidity in damp weather) without the need to fiddle with temperature and volume controls. Just set and forget! Unfortunately the term dual is sometimes misinterpreted. A lot of people - unfortunately including some sales staff - seem to think that the standard aircon is climate control and that the option only adds individual temperature controls for the driver and passenger, which isn’t the case. Apologies for the rant - it’s a bit of a hobby horse of mine! - and being a tin-top rather than rag-top chap perhaps I have a different perspective on the subject.
