Easter weekend drive anyone?

Hi Erica,

My wife and I will be out meeting some friends on Sunday at Ladybower Reservoir in my Racing Yellow 718 GT4 so if you see us knocking about feel free to come up and say hello. If you've got a better suggestion for somewhere in that area to meet our friends with cafes/toilets I'm all ears!

-Dave

I'd recommend caution with regard to travel - a contractor working on behalf of the Club was recently fined £200 for conducting their work, which included some travel outside of their local area (travel from Yorkshire to Cumbria). Current Government advice and restrictions relating to March 29th changes onwards can be found here:

https://www.gov.uk/guidan...do#march-whats-changed

Specifically:

Travelling within England

You should minimise travel where possible. This means you should:

[ul][*]avoid making unnecessary trips

[*]combine trips where possible

[/ul]

The law does not prevent what is being suggested, staying local and minimising travel is merely guidance. So there is no caution required and no risk of any fine or FPN being upheld if the group size is less than 6.

As for the contractor working on behalf of the club they should challenge the £200 fine for traveling for work as that has always been allowed if the business is allowed to remain open under the restrictions.

Sounds good Dave, I only live in Hathersage so it's a very easy drive to Ladybower. Hathersage has facilities open - there's a lovely deli which does sandwiches, scotch eggs, sausage rolls, and fab coffee and milkshakes in Hathersage, along with the public loos that are open and regularly cleaned! Castleton I believe is also opening up - the main shop (Peak Stores) in the village does food (mainly pasties) and coffee too - but I think the wc's are shut there at the moment - however they may have opened them this week after the "stay local" got lifted.

There are also some fab driving roads or roads with greats views - up winnats pass, down Mam Nick (to Edale), up to Bretton where you can see 5 counties on a good day?

If you're happy to meet, drop me a call -Cheers Erica

Hello All fellow Caymanites,

As we are officially not having to stay local anymore in England, I wondered if there was anyone out there that fancies joining me in a small road trip round the Peak District (where I live) this weekend? There are now some cafes and toilets etc open so thoughts it might be nice to get some miles on my girl, especially as she has just been serviced.

Thanks Erica

Sounds good Erica, is that Colemans Deli in Hathersage? We were planning on taking a picnic but it looks like the deli is open on Easter Sunday so we'll go there instead!

It is Colemans - lovely food - and I've a family and friends discount card! Be prepared for a queue though - it's really popular and you may want to park in the local car park as the deli has very limited parking and small spaces and you wouldn't want to try and squeeze your bright yellow porsche in there!

I always plan my parking in advance so I'd certainly be looking for somewhere big and open rather than small and tight! I shall check Google maps.

Thanks again for the info [:D]

I may do a trip over snake pass or cat and fiddle on Sunday morning. I'll try and sneak out before the chaos ensues when the kids wake up!

Dan.

Let me know if you do get to escape the bedlam and I happily join in a "round" trip - I could meet you at the end of the Snake near Ladybower and we could go on from there - drop me a line.

Having been into the village at lunchtime, The Bank House has also opened for the weekend - doing takeaway food and drink - its right next to the deli too! So lots of choices - and there may even be the fish and chip shop!

If you do need parking drop me a line - I've two cars and two spaces (which are very hard to come by in Hathersage) and can drop the sportage onto the road so you could park next to the Cayman...

Seems that the health secretary has clarified the [strike]rule[/strike] guidance in an interview (Minimise travel, but it's OK to see family and friends)

enjoy Easter

Define "rule", Nick [;)]

The law is clear. You can drive around all four corners of England all day if you want to and meet up to six people outside [:)]

See you've got me at it now .... I've edited my post to change rule to guidance. Clearly when the word 'should' is used it is not mandatory or enforceable; if it were the word must or shall needs to be substituted.

Nick

If you do go out over the weekend folks, please take care. The NY Moors roads are already seeing an influx of cyclists, bikers and motorists all keen to enjoy themselves and we have had a couple of accident related road closures in the last week. I suspect driving skills are a bit rusty and enthusiasm is high!

I think it's a bit early to ask anyone to meet up you could end up with potentially a good few cars. I think we need to be more responsible for non essential gatherings still for a while.

Have a happy safe Easter. [:D]

Stuff that, I've been cooped up far too long and will be going out as much as possible this weekend!

Now where's my car key...

I can but assume that the contractor was fined for travel prior to March 29th, when the law changed. There is no longer a legal requirement to stay at home although as has been mentioned, there is a recommendation to "minimise travel". What that means is not specified, and anyway you cannot be fined for not following a recommendations no offence has been committed. As also has been mentioned, Matt Hancock has publicly stated that he intends to travel about 200 miles to Suffolk and back this weekend. You have to assume that he is following his own governments guidance, so we can only suppose that 200 miles is within the minimal travel distance.

I've been given a pass until just after lunch so am happy to meet up to do either Snake Pass or Cat and Fiddle.

If anyone fancies it, let me know a time and a place as I'm not familiar with that neck of the woods and I'll be coming from Haydock.

Dan

Hi Dan, I’d be happy to meet up at the Tesco extra at Hyde, Sk14 6QA at the end of the M67 and we could do the Snake and possibly the Cat and Fiddle if you want? What time do you want to meet? Erica
