Advice on Servicing Please

I've owned a 2005 C2S since new and had it regularly serviced at the local Porsche Centre.
According to the engine number my Porsche Centre reveal it's post the bearing issue.
It's only covered 20,150 miles since new but a mere 665m since the last small service.
Would it suffer if I missed this next big service?...I've become increasingly concerned about our environment (yes I know!) and the thought of all that (synthetic) oil and spark plugs etc going to waste is a real concern.
I'll likely end up keeping it, so the resale value is not that much of an issue - I'm more concerned over storing up future problems.
Any advice/guidance would be appreciated.
Regards....Ian

911's more than most Porsche models seem to benefit from regular servicing as performance tends to drop off if this is delayed/missed.
As you are driving a high performance sports car, you need to maintain at peak performance.

If you don't, then you will need to weigh up your environmental concerns regarding oil, spark plugs etc renewal against the dirtier emissions your engine will produce if it is not running cleanly and filters have not been replaced.

Apart from these concerns, you will also find a hole in the vehicle's service record can go against you when you come to sell the car.

Regards,

Clive

Presumably your talking about the 4 yearly major with minor service in between. So I presume from your narrative you have had 4 minor and 3 major services to date and all OPC and have been following the reccomended service intervals. Therefore what mileage have you done since the last major? If you have only done 2/3000 miles then you can get away with minor service. The issue you have is that you have a one-owner very low mileage and no doubt mint car. If your planning to sell it in the next four years you need to do the major as it the history underwrites its higher than normal value if your planning to keep it longer then I would suggest following the correct service intervals but switching to a Porsche Specialist a d save yourself a small fortune and the savings will be more than any small reduction in residual.

Sorry missed out the issues. Basically they were not sorted until Gen 2 cars and 2009
IMS yes was improved 2006 bearing but not totally sorted and the bore scoring again was still a random issue until 2009. Generally the issue is more prevalent in underused automatics that spend their lives in cities. I.e don't get used to their normal potential.
Generally the issues tend to show up between 35 and 60k. Sorry.

Hi Clive & Gordon...Thanks for your advice...It's fundamentally what I expected, but not necessarily what I wanted to hear!
OK...I will look at using a Porsche Specialist, as the truth be told I am far from impressed with some of the work carried out on a number of items and occasions with the OPC.
The car has only travelled 752 mile since the last Major service in 2019.
Does the Bore Issue affect all or just some of the 997 1 is it a question of pot luck or is it possible to tell from the engine numbers?
Many thanks...Ian

Hi, in a similar position to yourself, re the servicing I do it myself, I get everything delivered by Car Parts 4 less, Mobil 1, Mann filters. Servicing a 911!is very easy and well within the grasp of an enthusiast.

i was not happy with OPC, even less so with Indys who invent work to prop up the bill to match OPC levels of billing.

as for the IMS, you must have one of the first and yours must be late 05 registered and a 2006 MY. If it’s manual I wouldn’t even worry about it. If it’s auto then I’m thinking you drive it properly and let it warm up before opening it up, also thinking it’s summer use with such low miles, so starting it up at home at 6:30 in winter at minus 3 and gunning it from clap cold isn’t something that your going to have ever done.

problems come with the owners of these cars NOT the cars, it’s fine being the 6th owner of a sports car that’s 15 years old with 150k on the clock, having no idea about it’s past or how it’s been driven or where but moaning when they go pop.

I feel you are in the looking after it properly and generally know if it’s been abused or not Camp, any garage can service a 911. And as I say the service is not at all difficult. If you are keeping it then what does it matter if the book isn’t stamped ? You know yourself it’s been done, I change my Oil and filter every year. Few hundred miles. I then use the Oil in my Discovery. Filters are paper and plastic so I put them in the recycling bin ? Spark plugs, control arms or any bike parts I have I take a bloke in the village who makes random figures and rubbish welding them all together and selling them.

Thanks Gordon...Yes I know where he is I think...Have you heard or had any experience with Stuart Roden Motors in Winchburgh?
Cheers...Ian

Thank You C4 Silver...Very interesting....Unfortunately I don't have the knowledge to attempt the servicing myself!
Interesting to hear you views on the IMS...The car is June UK registered (I think there were a number of 04 reg 997s) - I picked it up from the Factory late May '05 and yes it is a manual...it's done mainly 100 plus mile journeys apart from a few local rugby trips but I dare not use it now anywhere around Edinburgh due to the state of the roads...It's been properly run in and never used when there's salt around so hopefully it'll last a while yet...
I think I'll get some quotes from some Independents - but may very well end up going to the OPC again....!
Best Wishes...Ian
