Deactivate Porsche Entry and Drive

Hi all,

Does anyone know whether it possible to permanently deactivate Porsche Entry and Drive feature on a 991.1?

I live in London, and personally know three people who have had their high value cars stolen off their driveways through RF amplifiers / signal cloning - lots of different makes (mercedes, tesla, and BMW) all using what I assume to be a similar technology in the Porsche. One of them was my neighbour!

I've found an ideal spec 991 to replace my 997, but I'm concerned as the 991 I have found has Porsche Entry and Drive and therefore would be at higher risk of being stolen very easily.

Is it possible for the Porsche Entry and Drive feature to be deactivated permanently, so that the key acts like a 'normal' key? I know this feature can be deactivated temporarily by pressing a sequence of buttons on the key, but I understand the feature is reset the next time the car is unlocked. I'm not keen on the hassle of using Faraday pouches or wrapping myself or the car in foil

Has anyone deactivated it permanently, and could you share how you achieved this?

Thanks in advance

Thatcham did some research on various manufacturer's Entry and Drive systems and found Porsche's to be excellent and one of the best.
The latest units shut down when not in use, thus making it impossible to clone.
I'm not sure if this was included in 991.1 but maybe you can verify it with your PC by providing the VIN.

Clive,

Can't a 'sniffer' be used to 'read' the code when the system is being used to operate the door locks?

No idea, Ralph. I only know the system came out on top of the recent Thatcham tests.
I suppose you may also need a crash helmet too in order to protect from a simultaneous physical attack whilst operating the door lock! [:)]

Interested to hear if they can turn off keyless entry.

Something like a Faraday pouch or even an old tin, will greatly reduce the issue as they simply will not be able to scan for the key. I know you say you do not want to use a faraday pouch but even if you use one at night only, it will benefit as this is the most likely time a would be thief will target your car.

A good old fashioned steering wheel lock , something like a Stoplock pro / Disklok might also make potential thieves think twice and potentially move onto your neighbours property / cars rather than yours.

Other options are devices such as Ghost etc which once again add another level of complexity for a would be thief.

Its very difficult to stop car theft, in many cases its calculated and pre-planned rather than opportune like it used to be, but you can make it that little bit harder.

The one thing you have in your favour with street parking ( if thats what you are doing ) over driveway parking, is its far less obvious who owns the car!
