R11 - Social Media Group(s)

Hi All. Given the limitations on in-person meetings and more generally, as a means for R11 members to connect to one another, I assumed that R11 would have a group on Facebook or other social media platform. The R11 forum on PCGB site is hardly an active forum so I am wondering what I am missing? I know the people of Essex are a happy and chatty bunch so I am surprised there is no active platform for sharing the limited enjoyment we might get out of our cars right now; unless of course I am missing something?

Hi Mike

I agree a R11 Facebook page would be a nice idea for us social types. Other regions have one including R12.
I did raise with R11 lead, and offered to create/admin if required. But it wasn’t deemed necessary at the time.

Nothing to stop us having an ‘unofficial’ Essex/surrounding area page though?
I’d definitely join and support - like many I’m a member of several Facebook car forums and enjoy the dialogue etc
But we don‘t have a ‘local’ group, and PCGB forum isn‘t very active.

Good idea!

.... and/or... if we show there is interest of at least a few members, we could raise and propose at next group meeting.

I’ll email Martyn and Martin again if they would support this proposal, to at least get latest view ????

Hi,

As we all know there are many different forms by which the Club and R11 communicates with members.

We have Porsche Post, which is sent to every member, and there are several members in our region who do not have Internet access so it is the principal means of communication. We also have monthly newsletters which are sent out by Mailchimp and, of course, this Forum. I do not know why the Forum is so little used by R11 members since it is a valuable resource.

Pre-pandemic, we have had monthly Club nights and, since we have been in lockdown, we have had several Zoom meetings, which, frankly, have not been very well attended despite having had some interesting speakers. In January, we had a Zoom meeting, during which members were invited to put forward their ideas for events, meetings, drives and to raise any matters of interest - silence reigned.

Mick, I, of course, remember that you suggested that R11 use Facebook to communicate with members and at that time you were the only person that called for it. Out of over eight hundred members in the region, we now have three members that feel it would be a good idea.

Since the first post on this subject, I have been in communication with Club HQ, where the staff are all working from home with only one member of staff manning the telephone in the office.

I hope that by tomorrow I will have information that is required to set up a Facebook page for the region and when I have that I will send an email to you, Mick.

Your interest in this subject is appreciated.

Martyn

Many thanks Martyn

if you need any assistance on this matter, please don’t hesitate to ask.
The page would need at least an admin and maybe additional moderator(s) to check content.

I recognise we have many excellent means of communication.
The Facebook page (if used) could enhance these, by giving a fast and easy method for local members to stay in touch, ad-hoc meets etc.

In response to members requests for use of social media and to enable a further form of communication with members, we have listened and are pleased to instigate an R11 Facebook page. We hope that it can and will be used for social dialogue, technical help, member experiences and recommendations, etc. It does not in any way replace any of the current communication channels, such as Porsche Post, email newsletters and the Forum, but supplements them. Members are requested to be courteous and conform with all our laws, especially concerning current Coronavirus restrictions on social meetings.

To join, the link is:

Alternatively, just search for "porscheclubgb-essex" on Facebook to find the page and then make a request to join. You will be asked for your name and PCGB membership number. Following verification, you will be allowed access.
