Hi

I recently brought my first Porsche, a 991 Carrera S with 46,000 on clock full dealer service history. Its lovely throughly enjoying it tight as a drum and great condition. I went to go and pick a takeaway up tonight see as there is nothing else we can do at the mo and i had a cycle of warnings come up when I went to turn on the car but didn't start the engine. I had PASM fault, diff fault, headlight fault and reverse fault come up! i turned the car off and tried again no faults started first time and drove like the day it was made. doesn't anyone have any ideas!?

Thanks Ad

Hi Ad,

That is normal, when you switch on the ignition all warning lights come on. As soon as you start the engine all lights go out,

Brendan

Hi Brendan

Thanks for reply.

The engine doesn’t start until i turn the key back then try again and its not all the time, is that normal?

Sorry i should add there not warning lights it warning messages on the right hand display. I have a video but i can't upload as too big!

Thanks Ad

Hope your enjoying your 991 they are fantastic cars .have your battery tested when you can when my first battery was on way out I had warning lights telling me things such as p a s m . A b s etc we're not working

Hi

Thanks, yes great car i have a 2020 RS6 for my daily and the 911 even though 10 years old is much more fun to drive!

I was thinking battery as it has only done it when we have had a really cold snap which is never good for any battery and lots of posts point towards a dying battery causing lots of warning lights.

thanks Adam

Hi Ad

As Dave j said sounds battery I leave my GTS on a battery conditioner as mine is also a second car the ctek one also monitors for any battery problems

Do u know how old your current battery is ?

Thanks

Thanks

im going to check today. Also i forgot to mention when i went to start yesterday the horn came on until i turned off the ignition then was fine when i tired again?

Hi Ad,

as others have said sounds like your battery is on the way out - various weird stuff happens when that starts - so best get that replaced (and if you're under warranty will have to be a main dealer porsche part)

Anyway, given the current weather, batteries are a bit more susceptible and less use doesn't help either - so most of us on here keep our cars on trickle chargers when not in use - particularly over the winter months - Ctek MXS through the club shop is preferred and just plugs into the cigarette lighter socket in the centre cubby box (get the cigarette socket cable with it). Well worth getting one if you've not already.

Thanks for your help, Yes i have ordered a trickle charger and it is booked in to a Porsche specialist tomorrow. They agree probs battery can give funny faults even tho its not flat. I had the same with my last RS4 battery was on the way out i had alsorts of issues!

Thanks again
