Green liquid leaking from engine area.

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help. Just recently I have notice small areas of water and a green fluid underneth the engine area. (991.1 3.4). It’s not oily and it can’t be coolant as that is pink. It‘s not in a specific area, but the full width of the car and seems to be dropping off the exhaust. I’ve looked at various forums and one suggested that it could be grit/salt activating with the metal on the exhaust?? It does seem to have happened when it’s been out on gritted roads but I’ve never heard of this before. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome Ben ...

Have had similar on a previous Cayman (more yellow than green) and would agree with the diagnosis you note (based on an enquiry to my local Porsche dealer)

Hi
I believe your problem may be a refrigerant fluid leak from the aircon system. If it’s over the exhaust system it would suggest a leak around the pump housing.
Maybe. Just a thought ???????

My 981 Boxster has been left indoors during the recent cold snap (-8c outside, sub zero in the garage) avoiding the salt on the roads. I came to it yesterday and found some drops of florescent green fluid (pictured) on the floor inboard of the rear wheels either side of the engine. My immediate thought was radiator coolant but that is standard pink and at the right level. The aircon was re-gassed recently at the OPC and the axle carriers where replaced in a recall. Took it out for 50 miles yesterday and nothing on the garage floor this morning so I'm a bit mystified. Any thoughts welcome and thanks in advance!

Was the car last used `in the wet` ... if so, I would go with the diagnosis in the original post

From Google re. the AC system ...

" Freon is a colourless gas. The manufactures add dye. Bright yellow or green. Better [strike]scene[/strike] seen under a black light "

Chaps,

Just to point out that as far as I’m aware the 991 has EPAS, so there’s no hydraulic fluid.

If it’s not an a/c leak the only other source would be brake fluid, but offhand I can’t recall what colour that is.

Thanks Chaps,
The car was last used in the dry but I did give it a wash before putting it away.
I think Aircon dye is the most likely culprit. Maybe it escaped when they re-gassed the system because it looked a bit low which could have been down to a small leak.................. Who knows?
Something to have a look at when the engine cover's open again methinks.
Regards and have a good Christmas
Mark
