After 7 years of Caymans I‘ve pushed the boat out and swapped the GT4 for a 991.2 GT3. Car has PPF track pack and ceramic coating treatment yesterday and today and is presently resting whilst the film cures. It is coming from the North and will arrive in Devon end next week in a covered trailer and we’ll be doing Covid-safe delivery and collection.
It has 18-way seats that will make getting in and out easier than the more visually attractive LWBs I had in the GT4. Brakes are iron rotors which I believe are more robust for track use than PCCBs. It is Guards Red (hence for me, the ceramic coating) with black wheels; I’d prefer a lighter wheel colour so I may have the wheels’ colour changed. It has front lift but I never had any problems with clearance with the GT4.
The Centre provided a full 12 page ECU download which provides a useful baseline.
I’ve got JCR silenced downturn tips in-bound and have ordered copper hi-temp nuts to make swapping OEM/JCR easier. The obligatory rear spoiler decal has arrived as have the red key blades; flappy pedal extenders are on order.
The car had been fitted with a number plate plinth which means holes in the front PU. Luckily there are only 4 holes and Rick at Highgate House has stick-on plates with a thicker gel back layer so this will allow fitting over the holes.
On the noise front, I looked at Soul, Uber911, JCR, and Cargraphics. I talked with a guy in the US who Euro collected his GT3RS and had to try out several noise reduction solutions to run on European tracks. He tried the Soul tips but these didn’t make a sufficient difference. I spoke with Johnny Cocker who claimed drive by below 100 db so I put my money where his mouth is and I’ll see if it works at Goodwood on 98db day.
