PCCM+ user questions and tips

Hi, there is a great thread already on sourcing and installing but having now got and installed mine I have some questions about its use so I though a new thread appropriate for use questions and tips. My unit did not come from Porsche direct and was installed by an independent (Precision Porsche) and whilst the did an excellent install maybe main dealers have provided more info about use.

1) Does anyone know about SD card map updates ? How often ? How much ? Downloadable ?

2) Will there be software/firmware updates for the unit ? How distributed ?

3) Using the SD maps it offers a traffic feature but for me it never shows anything ? How do I use or activate this ?

4) In the other thread someone showed navigation turns in the centre console - how do I activate this feature ?

Generally loving the new unit, main problem is that siri is utterly useless.

If you have user tips here then please share

Thanks

Sorry meant to reply a little while back.

Existing maps are TomTom Q3 2019. Based on previous Porsche maps for stereo systems maps are generally released every 3-4 years and supported for around 15 years or so but of course that will just depend on whatever contract Porsche has with TomTom, if they are based on the same maps another car may have, popularity of updates, whether it makes financial sense for Porsche to continue financing updates after the initial contract is up and how quickly the technology is outdated. There is a map system update available which is a bug fix for those with 996.2's that corrects an issue where kilometers and miles are displayed differently between the stereo and the instrument cluster.

2.
As previously stated an update was available for the map system, Porsche posted this to me as an SD card with installation instructions but this may not be the standard means since this was just a bug fix though the systems has a hidden menu with an upgrade section designed to install updates to any part of the systems i.e. for navigation, main OS ect. This may become a dealer only upgrade where only they are able to get the firmware SD's, it may be something you can later buy or may even just be a case where you can download them to an SD in future from the internet since I discovered the update SD card I have is a generic SD card with some files on it and worked fine if just copied to another SD.

The traffic features are in the setting menu on maps, not the main settings.

I think it was I who showed the navigation directions in the centre console you saw, this is a feature only available to 996.2 cars originally with a PCM 2.0 (in which case you should already have it) or a CDR23 (in which case you will need a dealer or someone with a PIWIS to turn on this setting on the car OBC.
