Nick,

I have to ask what makes you want to upgrade the ARBs? The whole suspension will have been developed carefully by the Porsche engineers to give a well balanced set-up and messing about with just one component won’t necessarily achieve anything beneficial.

If your car’s getting leggy the whole suspension will be getting tired, so most probably you’d be better with a full upgrade: springs, dampers, ARBs and bushes. If you’re going to do this I think it would be best to consult with a Porsche specialist who should be able to tailor a set-up which best meets your requirements.

Hi Jeff

Thank you for responding so quickly

previous experience modifying cars lead me to the thought of replacing the ARBs, however I have no previous experience with Porsche, and your comments are backed up more or less by Pete from centre Gravity, he did say however that it would be ok to replace the ARBs with H&R but Pete thought this would be overkill for what is really a road car 99% of the time, stating that compliance is better for rapid progress on our less than perfect roads, so I will be staying with the OEM ARBs, just renew like for like due to the corrosion of the original ARBs.

Thanks Jeff

Hi John

I think im going to renew the ARBs anyway, and change various other components such as the coffin arms etc, plus dampers and top mounts, I think they could all do with a re fresh to be honest, but thank you for your kind advice john it is very much appreciated

Kind Regards

Nick

OEM all the way, I wouldn't risk upsetting a really well balanced car. Refreshing the suspension is a good idea, it will make a big difference.

My old Z4 used to lollop about like an overweight bear on drugs, that car needed stiffer ARB's. I fitted H&R bars and that completely transformed the car. I definitely don't get that vibe in the Porsche.

Evening Pete

Yes your right, and having discussed this on here and with others have lead me realise that I would quite possibly destroy what is a fabulous handling chassis, so OEM it is, I will refresh the dampers etc etc as these have been on the car from day one and after going to Centre Gravity Pete has highlighted they are less than perfect, im locked into a lengthy refurb of this car because this has been I feel a track day hero, that said myself along with Pete were blown away with the components on the underside of the car, and lack of any really substantial corrosion other than what amounts to surface rust on older components which is natural, this fact alone pushes me onwards, and I am utterly sold on getting this Cayman S Sport back to her former glory.

Have a nice weekend Pete.

Nick
