Hi,

I am not sure if I am allowed to post this here, but my much cherished 2008 987.1 Cayman is currently listed on the Collecting Cars Auction site https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2008-porsche-987-cayman I am currently hoping that over the next six days it gets up to a decent value. It is certainly a very different experience to listing a car on Autotrader etc and having random people turn up to view your car, and then negotiate a price with you.

Thanks Colin

Interesting to read Colin, the site and the details they ask for and are on the advert.

Hope you find the buyer you wish for, the car looks a cracker.

Colin,

As a previous owner of a 2007 Gen 1 987.1 Cayman 2.7 5 speed, your car is one of the best, if not THE best, example I have ever seen for sale. The auction site you have chosen for selling your car certainly seems to have been an inspired choice. The buyer interest, and very realistic bids received so far, must surely have exceeded your expectations.

Well done, and one lucky new owner will be getting a cracker of a car.

Brian

Hi Brian,

I looked at the usual options of selling on Autotrader, Pistonheads or even the car sales option on this site and decided that the Collecting Cars Auctions seemed to be an interesting alternative, particularly given we are currently suffering from a pandemic. As you can see the cars are sold without them being viewed in the majority of cases, with buyers making their decisions based on the photographs and the description of the car and its history. I chose to have them photograph my car at a cost of £150, and 170 photographs were uploaded to support the auction. Collecting Cars claim that currently 25% of their auctions are Porsches. People seem happy to buy some very expensive cars using this approach. My car finally sold for £15,260.

Thanks Colin

Colin,

By all accounts you can say with confidence that your chosen method of advertising your Cayman was a resounding success. Result!

The £150 fee for Collecting Cars Auctions to do the photos is well worth doing. When buyers are relying on photos only the best will do.

One question, what is the seller's commission percentage charged by Collecting Cars Auctions?

Congratulations on an excellent price achieved.

Brian

Hi Brian,

Yes I am pleased with the price achieved. Collecting cars charge 6% commission to the buyer, i.e. in my case the buyer has paid £16,176 including Collecting Cars commission. As the seller the service was free, apart from me choosing to pay £150 for professional photographs.

Thanks Colin
