944 turbo starter motor wiring

So, fitting a new starter today and seems I should have taken a pic of the wiring connections when I took it off. There's the small wire that has the 8mm nut, 2 wires with copper terminals that go together on the top stud that have a 13mm nut. And 4th wire with a silver terminal and red insulation. It's this 4th wire I don't remember it's place? Not the connection between the starter and solenoid.

Here's the diagram, hope it helps. Seems to say that all the wires except one are black, the other (fourth) one is black/red and that goes to t50.
Haven't been in there for years, so can't say from memory.

Thanks. Every guide I can find on youtube just shows 2 live cables on the upper terminal. If I understand your pic correctly there's 3. wonder if my 3rd wire is red from the alternator. Car is a late 1990 build I think. Terminal and wire length suggests it fits with the 2 live wires.

The ABS is the third wire as it’s live all the time

the emergency jump start connector under the bonnet is part of that circuit

Cheers. That'll teach me to pay more attention. Pelican Parts guides etc, must be on non ABS cars.

Sorry late into this thread - on my alternator - 3 large (but varying in thickness 13mm hole size) cables onto main live feed - rest are 8mm nut on the small terminal,

What about the rear battery with jumper post under the hood (bonnet?) In ROW cars or others for left hand drive configurations, the battery is installed under the bonnet on the passenger side so no jumper post is required. Battery boosting is done directly onto the battery/cables. At least my S2 is so configured and I believe the ROW turbos are also as safety considerations prefer the battery to be located outside the passenger compartment. Might this explain 2 vs 3 wires...eg Pelican is showing an ROW or North American (left hand drive) wiring configuration?

Could be. The new starter certainly spins up faster than the old one has done for years.

Just to update. As I exchanged my old starter I was expecting a refurb. The new starter appears to be brand new, came in a Lucas box but no idea who manufactured it. I did partly dismantle the old starter, but it didn't look pretty inside, so I'm OK with £100 for the replacement. It looks exactly like the £300+ new starters some retailers are advertising.
