Tyres - quick question

Tizzy

Having suspension replaced with Bilstein B6 next week, with new coffin arms, links etc And then full four-wheel alignment. Seemed like common sense to replace the tyres as well as fronts are 5+ years old and got an advisory on the MOT for sidewall cracking, and rears are down to around 3mm. Currently have Bridgestone Potenza S-001 on 18’s 225/40 front and 285/30 on the back. Can‘t find the new S-02 Potenza in 285 size, but can get Pirelli P-Zero Rosso N4’s to fit all round. Happy with the Bridgestone grip but any feedback good or bad on the P Zero’s on a 996 would be appreciated please.

Thanks as always!

Chris

Hi Chris
I have Pirelli P-Zero Rosso all round on mine. when the time comes I will replace them with Michelin pilot sports,
as I’m not overly impressed with my rosso’s in the wet.
just my opinion.

I have new P-Zero Rosso N4 all round and find them great although I'm no Michael Schumacher but I don't drive like Miss Daisy either.

Tend to avoid driving the 996 in the wet so not much experience of them in those conditions.

Likewise, recently had full suspension upgrade. Previously had Bridgestones and went for Michelin PS2 N rated. These tyres feel exceptional in the wet and dry. Highly recommended.

+1 for the Michelins

Well, I got the car back tonight after replacement of all coffin arms, tuning forks, tie-rods, track-rod ends and new set of Bilstein B6’s with new top-mounts, bearings and bump-stops (should have seen the old ones!). Then 4 wheel alignment - it was so far out particularly on the front. Combine this with new P Zero Rosso 225/18 and 285/18 on each corner and the difference is night and day. The steering is much more firm and precise and the back end has stopped crashing over bumps (which had got worse when the engine mounts were replaced). Most noticeable is how nailed down the front feels and no more squirrelly feeling at speed. To be honest - and this might sound weird but I’m fortunate to be able to make a direct comparison - it feels much more like Mrs T’s 991 now. Totally different car. Interestingly they said to ensure I put a full tank of fuel in it and that the suspension would "settle” after a few days and the ride height reduce slightly. Will keep you updated. Cheers Chris
