718 GT4 Ferry Loading Clearance

Not sure if this applies to a GT4 but do you have PASM or the sport chassis? If The latter, which I believe lowers the car by 20mm, you could try using higher profile tyres, say 40 profile in lieu of 35. This would give approx 10mm more clearance. You would need to get N rated tyres, if available in the 40 profile size, and ensure your warranty and/or insurance cover is not compromised. Sorry this doesn’t answer your question but just a thought.

I watched the video with interest and seems I would make it on (I think he left from Liverpool) but watching the return/loading in Douglas the pitch down to slight up to flat looked challenging and interestingly wasn't shown as I'm guessing it was perhaps a little more involved than the loading on the outward journey...

I suppose a lot of this depends on tide heights too.

 
So, I'm provisionally booked on the PCGB May 2021 Manx tour but have a question I'm not sure I'm going to get a definitive answer to...
I am planning to go on the tour with my 2020 718 GT4, however I'm wondering about clearence issues loading on and off the Liverpool or Heysham to Douglas Ferries.

The 718 GT4 has a standard front splitter height of approximately 12 cm or 4.7 inches which is fairly low and is compounded by the distance from it to the front axle. I do change my angle of approach when meeting potential problem flat to slopes but clearly there is a limit.

The holiday operator is recommending the Heysham ferry (over the Liverpool one) as this is better equipped for low vehicles (but is at owners risk) so I wondered if anyone here has experience or useful advice around this concern?

I am not a GT4 owner to my great regret, but I have travelled on the Heysham ferry to Douglas, Isle of Man.

In the queue behind me was a very low slung Lamborghini returning home. It loaded onto the Heysham to Douglas ferry without apparent problems.

I think if it was a modern Lamborghini it may have benefited from an axle lift as I believe you can also option on some Carreras. If not then I'm further encouraged.

I'm beginning to think from the messages here and from further research I have done that on the whole it should be fine and clearence only poses a real problem if you coincide with the extremes of the tide (very high or low tides).

I think most ferry companies encounter low slung cars and have timber boards to help ,been to the Oldtimers grand prix meet a few times and the PO ferries always manage to get cars on and off .

 
There are lots of supercars travel back and forth from here (Isle of Man) every year so you should be OK. Providing I approach the ramp at a 45 degree angle and take it very slowly I have been OK with my Porsches (991.2 GTS and 981 BGTS), but it is tight - the loading crew will guide you and keep watching that you have clearance.
