Hi all,
I have the 2nd porsche meet drive ready.
As per the latest government rules we can only have 6 people.
My car will have myself and my son Tristan as he is my navigator.
That leaves 4 more people.
If you are alone, that is 4 more cars so a maximum of 5 cars.
Also you will need to bring 4 pound coins as the start and finish is in a pay and display and the charges will be £2 for the parking each time.
Because of the limit, it will, again, be a first come first served basis.
The date is Sunday 18th October to meet at the start for 12 midday.
All previous other rules for the first drive we did are the same regarding social distancing.
If you want to take part send your e-mail to me at medlarstorm@yahoo.co.uk
telling me your first name and surname and mobile number (in case you get lost like 2 did on our first run).
I will then confirm your particiption and send you the details.
Thank you all in advance...

I will be flying solo for this now so that free's up another place for someone else if they are solo. This is a lovely drive so hurry as it is this Sunday...

Well, as the song goes, just the two of us! That's Manuel and I who did the meeting drive today and what a lovely, picturesque drive it was, and not a sign of the wet stuff.
The scene was set as the start, and finish, was in a carpark within the Salcey Forest. Thank you to Manuel for taking part but I must say, a very poor showing by members in general but all I can add to that is 'your loss'.
Lets hope that more of you show a bit more interest for the next one which will probably be Jan or Feb next year. The quantity of entries is currently governed by the PM.
Kindest regards
Gary

It's a tone like this that makes me not even want to attend Regional meets.

That’s a very unfair thing to say Andrew. Gary spent a lot of his own time planning and driving the route for us and he’s quite rightly disappointed with the response.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend myself and don’t know if members who’d indicated that they would join him for the drive didn’t turn up on the day, but I think that he deserves our thanks for making the effort as well as our apologies for not giving him greater support and encouragement.

Jeff

Hi Jeff,
Not sure its unfair. It's just how I read the post and reacted to it. I'm also very appreciative of people giving up their spare time to organise meets/events as I know how difficult and frustrating this can be. As a member with a young family I seem to have very little spare time and wouldn't be able to do this so it is great that regional members who can, support the club and it members. I hope as I grow up [:)] I'll have more time to attend and eventually give back to the club.
Keep up the good work chaps.

Hi Gary.

Sorry I didn’t make the drive on Sunday but I wasn’t expecting to be back from Lancashire. I then had to dash to escape their lockdown.

Don’t feel despondent about the very low number.... I tried Pub of the Month two years ago in October and had two too. Last year Paul and Sue had a better number but it’s always slow this time of year. Many people put their cars away until Spring.

The social element is so much missing at the moment, so I am sure umbers will improve when this crazy world sorts itself out!!

Cheers.
Mark

Well, indeed, let’s hope things are sorted as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, as many of us know, sometimes you can’t even bring a horse to water [8|]

Many’s a time over the last 8+ years when I’ve organised something and had the same sort of turnout - very well done Gary and Manuel for getting out an enjoying your lovely Porsches together, and always to Mark for all he does for our region, even though we’re all stunted at the moment [:)]

We’re all unique, but have a common enthusiasm for Porsche - enjoy driving them!

Hi all,
The comment I made was not aimed at any individual but at R10 as a whole. The 'tone' may have been a bit flippant and would or should only offend those that potentially feel guilty about it but when R10 have over 400 members and only 2 participated, the 'tone' is created by the type of participation, or should I say, lack of it, by R10 members. My personal view is that I think it is quite embarrassing that less than 1% participated. You can not argue with that, but don't get angry or miffed, it's good to have a debate now and then and I am certainly not upset about it because Manuel and I thouroughly enjoyed it, and as in my original comment, those that didn't take part well it was their loss. That's all.
The most kindest regards,
Gary

Oh dear - here we go again a 'social' club where people are being addressed like naughty school children and having to provide excuses. I wasn't even aware of the latest attempt at a 'social, fun' drive being organised by R10 but to be frank I kind of gave up after the numerous cancellations. I have probably participated in over 20 drives this season all socially distance (admittedly to varying degrees depending upon when this summer they took place) usually with many more than 6 cars - often over 20 - most recently in social pods of 6 cars. These have been informally organised with friends and/or by a couple of regional TIPEC groups (of which other R10 members are connected and have attended). As I have mentioned previously I take COVID very seriously (my family has been personally affected and we went in to lockdown 3 weeks before the government insisted) but I also believe in adults being empowered to make their own decisions - at times it has felt as though a, "I can't do it so you can't do it," mentality existed with government guidelines being utilised (a tad too vociferously) when informal meetings or drives on the R10 forum were trying to be arranged.
My point is not to 'have a go' at anyone individual but to state once again that I thought PCGB was meant to be a social, fun club in which disparate people were drawn together who shared a common passion. I understand that this necessitates mixed perspectives and views and as such members may disagree but I have been surprised by what felt, at times, to be the overly authoritarian tone expressed by some. I am not always a maverick - I knowingly joined Masons who do insist on a moral code outside of the Lodge and who have a hierarchical structure --- but this is a car club!
I feel that it is terribly unfair to criticise low attendance so late in the season after numerous cancellations by PCGB and R10 in particular. Further, the authoritarian tone expressed in some statements, drive meeting instructions, and thinly veiled threats of recrimination that attempts to arrange informal drives has incurred hardly motivate me to want to join any drives that may now be arranged. Since March there have been criticisms of attempts to arrange informal meetings (no matter how politely posted), whilst TIPEC have been attacked because they attempted (and then successfully executed) many safe, COVID compliant meetings which some in R10 felt were not 'strict enough' for them. At the end of the day it has just been too much 'hassle' trying to keep up with R10 and as a retired, 54 year old male I really don't like being 'told off' within a social club.

That' it, I shall not bother anymore. Someone else can organise the r10 rallies and meeting drives if anyone can be bothered.
Gary.

Hopefully this isn't considered a thread necro, but I haven't checked the forum quite often enough this year, and can honestly say I'd have gone on this drive had I actually known about it. These are strange times and I can see why people might think that nobody is doing anything.

OP its a thankless task organising routes sometimes - I've had that on a few occasions this year as well - please dont give up.

Ha ha, no, of course not but the next one will be next year though. Hopefully, with this vaccine we will be back to normal sooner rather than later. Weather permitting, look out in Feb, March time.
Cheers

Gary, like Silversword above I have not checked the forum as often as I should, and probably wouldn’t have done the run in question because we are being super cautious about the virus. However, I too know what a difficult job it is to organise runs and rallies and, as I have said before, you do a splendid job on the annual R10 rally so please do not be disheartened by one poor turnout in these very odd times. Looking forward to great events next year once the vaccine has kicked COVID-19 into touch.
Cheers!
