New member waiting new car.

Hello R7 members,

I have already posted on the Boxster section to say hello and wanted to do the same locally. As I explained on the Boxster section my avatar is my other car but will be updated when the new one arrives.
I have ordered a new Boxster and am looking forward to getting in the fold, if not this season then next season when hopefully COVID19 is not as big an issue as now. Fingers crossed.
As you can imagine the wait is a torment and the Grandfather from the old TV comedy, Bread comes to mind, ”I want my tea and I want it now” but in my case it’s my Boxster.
It does surprised that Porsche don’t seem to have a track and trace service to keep customers up to date on build like most other manufacturers do. But if there is such a thing then please let me know.
From what I can see already from the forum and the new members package from the club it appears to be well worth joining the club.

There is apparently a facility to let you see pictures of your car as it goes through being built. Whether it is available in all countries I’m not sure.
There will however be a timetable of important dates in your new car‘s gestation. Your OPC should be able to print this out for you, and update you with whether the actual dates correspond with the planned dates.

Welcome to prospective Porsche ownership - you won't regret it I am sure.

I have ordered a new Porsche and there is of course a facility to find out the progress of your ordered car. You need to create an account on the Porsche UK website and this will give you access to 'My Porsche'.

Once you have done that you will see there are 5 Stages to the process. I am at Stage 3 and I seem to have been here for a couple of months now having ordered in early July. Apparantly I will get pics of my car as it goes through the build process.

Hopefully mine should be going to Stage 4 soon as it is expected to leave the factory in mid October.

My OPC advised that nothing was available (odd) so I will create an account and have a look.
 
Update.
I thought it may be of interest to let you know what is happening. Today I have cancelled the car.
When I first crossed the threshold of my local PC my intent was to see what Boxster was available new in the yard and drive away with it once some plates Could be put on it. I agreed on a car but when I queried the spec a couple of days later to see if I could add bits to it I was told it wasn’t Possible.
I was also told that in fact there was a mistake and the car was not there but a build date was available and I could have the spec of my choice and it be delivered at the end of October. I decided to go ahead and make the order of my choice.
I have since found out that in fact the cars delivery date is probably nearer Christmas time.
Due to the fact that it is not an ideal time to have a rag top delivered considering the weather and probability of the roads being salted I thought it best to cancel and consider my options.
 
I have changed my specification of the model I want and made a new order. Just a waiting game now until the order can be deliveried.
 
The wait goes on but at least I have had my invite to the Porsche Experience at Silverstone.
Thoughts are going through my mind now of getting a second hand Porsche to see me through the waiting period Until mine arrives. It’s difficult to decide on the best thing to do. Nice idea but probably a very expensive bridging option.
 
I collect the new car Tomorrow. Just a white gts 4.0 with a few bits. I hope it lives up to expectations. The plan is to leave the showroom and head straight for the hills and see where the road takes us for two or three days.
 
Hope the car collection went smoothly. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with a new GTS4.0.
The hardest part is keeping below the 4,000rpm running in limit for 1865 miles!
I hope to see you and your car sometime soon.
 
Pick up went well. Enjoying the car. Three good days around the lakes and Dales but headed home now due to difficulties getting accommodations.

Not sure that the car has a 1865 mile running in period under 4000rpm.
I have looked at the handbook, briefly admitted, and there is no mention and when I asked at the Porsche centre they said not. The only advise was to make sure it’s up to temp before driving with any vigour and using things like launch control and sports+.

It‘s cunningly hidden under the "Same Driving Pleasure, more Safety” section of the Owners Manual. Page 12 of my 2020 edition.
also in the same section of the current Good to Know app.


Sadly, goes to show that OPC staff don’t always know very much about the cars that they are selling. Bit disappointing really.

I am trying to sort the wife’s diary out in order to get to some of the meets. Already booked a couple and hope to do some more soon. Thanks for the Welcome message.
 
Thank you Graham. Yes it is in my hand book. Luckily I haven’t been doing any vigorous driving so I should be OK.
I have a had a chat with the centre and let them know that it may be of interest to other new owners.
 
I did post the OPC but have removed the post. I wouldn’t want them to be thought of badly.
In all I am happy with there service.
 
Managed to clock up a few miles over the weekend which means that the car is run in.
If the weather forecast is correct it looks like it will be getting wet again going to the Leeds centre this evening.
