Hi There,

I have a few general questions on the hood. Could't find old threads on these:-

1. Why does the hood have three perfect circular marks and how can i get rid of them?
2. The hood is quite creased - is this expected?
3. Is there a company in the Middlesex or thereabouts (or Leicester) area that will restore hoods?

Thanks,

Nozer

Seen many roofs with the circles. Normal after time.
Fold crease marks.Normal after time general wear.
Carhood warehouse can replace the roof.
Or renovate yourself good though clean and reproof. if very badly faded try renonvo paint dye then reproof to make tidy.

Two coats of Fabsil Gold had my roof looking like new. They all seem to have the circle marks, Boxster’s do as well so it must be something in the storage position.

On my 997 I have one circle which is due to storage. I also use Fabsil gold, cleaned with Auto Glym cleaner, thoroughly dried then two coats of Fabsil brushed on in different directions 12 + hours apart. It didn't completely remove the circle or the creases but it dramatically improves the colour and appearance of the roof.

Thanks guys. I don’t want to restore myself and carhood warehouse seems only to replace hoods.

do any of you know companies that will restore the hood? I’ve looked on the internet and there are a few and at reasonable prices but it would be great to get a reference.

Hi, First post :). I re-dyed my 2002 c2 cab faded hood after about a month of ownership. Went with Renovo (Navy colour) rather than black. Origional hood colour could have been black but with the faded look I also wanted it to blend with the fabric covering the anti roll over bars!

I would recommend anyone to DIY this, really not that hard unless you have a mobility problem and results were stunning! The creases and fabric scuff marks are to be expected with age. I believe there are ways to 'iron' out the creases but not looked into this.

Best product I’ve ever used is from BMW. It’s like a tube of toothpaste, very good at restoring the clarity of the screen. Tried other plastic polish products but were not as good. Just contact local BMW dealer, we used it years ago on wife’s Z3

Hello all, i thought rather than create a new post, id add to an old post i had started as subject matter is same. I hope that's ok?

So recently I had a bit of a problem with my hood. It wouldn't go down and I had to gently bring it back up (a little forward pressure on the hook while also having the motor engaged). Taking it to cayman auto's they repaired o/s bow (if that means anything to anyone) and also gave the various moving parts a service too but the underlying problem still remains in that sometimes (more often than not now) the hood stops half way whether going down or up. Cayman autos technician said that the microswitches in the hood was telling the hood that it was up and down so the hood didn't know what to do. This is a little worrying and makes me think twice bringing the hood down unless I can guarantee the weather will be good all day etc etc.

Is there a repair on this that can be carried out without costing the earth?

Thanks,

Nozer
