Cabriolet window operations

Hi there,

I found that the rear windows won't wind up when the top is down. I've been told that is by design? Is that the case?

If it is, why is it that way? Is there an after market solution that can bypass this and allow me to bring the rear windows up?

Thanks,

Nozer

Hello

Mine are the same, so I assume its by design. I cant explain why and I don't know of any bypass. I have a wind deflector so it doesn't make any difference having the rear windows down to be honest.

They only do this on the 997 ands newer versions. 996 rear windows stay down when the hood is down. As per others I recommend the wind deflector - which you might find on EBay or someone like Douglas Valley Breakers - its very effective indeed.

cheers

Nozer,

The "SmartTOP" module will lower or raise the roof with one touch of the dashboard button (don't have to hold it down) and raises the 996 rear windows when the top is in the fully down position. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SmartTOP-Porsche-911-Convertible-996-/124260989048

I'm guessing Porsche chose to make owners hold down the button to raise or lower the top and not to raise the rear windows when the top is down because of advice from their risk adverse lawyers.

ive seen this but was hoping for a cheaper solution lol.

do you have it? Good?

There’s a trick to get them to go up if you want, once the roof is lowered if you put your finger in the hole the roof latches onto by the map light you will feel a button, while you hold that button you can put the rear windows up. They do make a little bit off a difference, let’s you get away without the wind deflector some days and reduces wind even more with the deflector in place, the 997 does the same and has the same mechanism for the windows so no risk if harm as Porsche obviously later decided it was safe to put them up.
