Main dealer fixed price servicing costs query

I had my 911.2 serviced yesterday for its 4 year service. I was provided what I was told Porsche fixed price policy costing being £1,251.22 (MOT included). I assumed for the Parts I would at least get 10% discounted from being a PCGB member, I informed by the service member the fixed price offer is already discounted, so I am not entitled to a further discount, I challenged him saying 'so whats the point have being a member of the PCGB if I don't get discounted pricing from the main dealer for servicing'. The service member then informed me that this normal practice with other Porsche main dealers, that fixed pricing services costs are not eligible for PCGB membership. This is find quite shocking and I confess next time I will check this our before confirming booking. (Finished up paying £1,281.61 as a Ignition Coil had to be replaced which is classed as an consumable item and not part of the warranty!)

Have fellow members also experienced the same situation?

Yep same here sorry to say.
Need to go to an indy for better value and a PCGB discount.

Agree with Clive …

My experience of comparing the standard service cost (where PCGB discount is available on parts) to the fixed price cost showed a saving re. the latter of 22%. This cost equated to that of a Porsche approved independent who would use exactly the same parts, at the same prices as the fixed price system ... the OPC is therefore discounting it`s labour rate in the fixed price system.

Have heard the same thing myself. It would appear that PCGB membership discount may depend upon how individual dealers play it. I also get a sense that there is a fairly good likelihood that in many instances, fixed prices will be added to by other issues that are then detected when the service actually gets underway.

Not my experience with Porsche Perth last August. The 10% discount was applied to the ‘fixed price’ service cost, ie. £120 off final bill. ??

Get prices from different OPCs. You can often save a few hundred pounds just by using a different dealership. I saved £250 on a minor service just by using a dealer 20 miles further away. I used the savings to get the car detailed while it was there!

I had two identical work quotes from different OPC’s for a major service for my 991.2 GTS PDK. I was shocked to find one was a £1,000 higher than the other.
Service and professionalism were miles apart too.

Hi I need a service on my 911 991 GT3 and would love to know which was the cheapest OPC I am based just outside of London and chiswick Porshe have the highest labor rates in the country so I’m looking for an alternative. Happy to travel if the Saving is good enough
thanks
steve

Hi Steve

I have had my 991.1 serviced twice by Porsche East London who were cheaper. did not contact me to suggest lots of unnecessary extras, and collected and returned my car. My Porsche owned main dealer not a million miles from my home refused to collect and deliver back in September 2020 and I will be using them again next September. I highly recommend them.

Regards

Jonathan

Hi Jonathan, maybe it’s me but are you saying Porsche east London were cheaper? Or that your local one is and you are returning there? sor for being a bit thick ???? I am going to call a couple of OPC tomorrow and get quotes from them will try outside of London too.

Just had an 8 year service at OPC Portsmouth on my 991.1 GT3. It was £2002 and they are a decent bunch. I travel 1 hour to use them as generally a few hundred cheaper than othe OPCs I've used.

Edit: This was maintenance service plus spark plugs.

It is probably too far for you, but after getting quotes from 4 OPCs for the 4 year service for my 991.2 Targa GTS back last October, Porsche Mid-Sussex (Burgess Hill) offered me the best deal, despite all the dealerships I contacted offering fixed price Servicing deals. I made sure as much as possible I was comparing apples with apples and got them all to quote for the same work (using the designated Porsche service codes for each element).

Suffice it to say that there was a very wide variation in the quotes that came back, with £400+ between the cheapest and the most expensive.

The variation in cost appeared to be dependent on who the OPC was franchised through, with those belonging to the Porsche Retail group that I contacted appearing to be the most expensive, irrespective of local labour rates.

Thanks for that, burgess hill is about an hours drive for me so not the Worst and I have spent that long getting to Chiswick Porsche in traffic so I will give them a call. Thanks again
steve

I live in Chsiwick but I take my car to Swindon OPC. Its an hours drive and they provide a courtesy car. They are much cheaper and the service is simply superb. I’ve been using them since 2004. Every time I try to use my local OPC they take shockingly poor service to a whole new level.

You really need to get quotes from a number of deal then play them off against one another. It’s such a shame you have to do this but they seem to all charge at they think they can get away with.
I have been getting quotes for my 991.2 6 year service and the prices in the north west have varied by £1k. I finally got my local Chester opc to match the lowest price from Bolton. If they hadn’t I would have just gone to Bolton. Wilmslow wanted a £1k more!! What a joke

Hi Steve

Sorry if my previous reply was ambiguous. I will hopefully use Porsche East London again but will phone around a few months before the service is due to compare pricing and whether they will collect/return car to my home. My experience with Porsche East London has been very much better than my Porsche owned OPC who I had used for more than 25 years and bought new and used cars from. Things seemed to change after the retirement of the previous Dealer Principal !

Hi thanks for the detail, it really is a Joke that they are that far apart for a service. I’m going to ring round 4/5 and will you know how I get on but I also find they can take days or more to come back to you. I left a message for Chiswick Porsche last week and still not heard back. Oh well I won’t be using them any more any way as they are just far too expensive and the service is poor.

I emailed them all asking for a quote then used the written quote to supply to my preferred dealer as they needed it in writing. Phoning around is a painful as they say they will get back to you and never do.

one of the issues is that many are booked up until end of March at the earliest for a service

I have had "scam" service from my Range Rover dealer. At the 5 year service with about 20 k miles from new they told me that the rubber steering joints needed replacing, the discs/pads were at the limit and various other things adding up to nearly £2 k worth of work. The car had an MOT a few weeks earlier at Halfords with an air-condition service. I had requested the air conditioning recharge and no faults whatsoever were detected by Halfords. After the RR service I took my car to an independent Land Rover specialist who could detect none of the problems that the RR dealer had said required fixing.

I have become very cynical of some main agent dealers and think that they get away with what is bordering on fraud on customers who are not too savvy.
