Hi everyone, hope you're well!!

Apologies, it's been quite some time since I posted here but in my defence there's been a lot going on! Some bad, some good...

Quick Recap
As some of you know, I'm battling Myeloma (an incurable bone cancer) - have been for 11 years but in spite of making lots of great plans for this year, like most people, it's been a turbulent and worrying time :( My previous treatment stopped working just before Corona virus raced across the world, then my Doctors suspended my chemotherapy for 3 months (due to the risks from Covid), then they managed to get hold of an experimental drug but two weeks after receiving the first infusion, I suffered considerable eye pain and lost two thirds of my vision - since then it's taken almost 2 months to recover my sight.

Anyway, let's say it's been a 'massive inconvenience'!

The Dream
When I bought my car last year, it came with a very comprehensive spec but nevertheless I made some immediate additions - things that I'd always thought of as quintessentially '911' and that, had Porsche not made the 50th Anniversary model, I would have wanted on my car anyway - the Fuchs style forged alloys and chromed engine cover for starters.....and that was the start of Project 991: To create a unique car, a legacy project and the car that I would have created, had I bought it new.

The next job on my 'To-Do' list, was to re-trim the seat centres in Pepita fabric, similar to the early cars but in black/silver, like the 50th Anniversary/911R. After a lot of research, I came across Garry Hall at Classic FX - Garry specialises in retrimming early 911s and is able to source small quantities of genuine Pepita fabric in various shades - something that would normally only be available via a CXX order through the factory. He is also able to source tartan, pinstripe and other Porsche fabrics.
Garry and I started talking back in February but with the lead-time for the fabric, his existing projects, Covid and my eye/health problems, the work couldn't commence until a few weeks ago.
After leaving the car with him, the front & rear seats were removed, stripped (using a copy of the official 991 manual that I managed to download), unpicked, patterned and sewn back together, to a factory original finish - Garry is really skilled at his job and in my opinion, the end result speaks for itself.

Here are some photos during and after the work:

With a two-tone interior, extended leather pack, deviated stitching to the black upper sections and now the Pepita seat centres, it's a pretty unique car - which is exactly what I wanted :)
Given the level of work involved, it's probably not for everyone and was a big leap of faith but I'd be happy to recommend Garry at Classic FX for any sort of re-trim work. Not only is he very skilled at his job but he was a pleasure to deal with throughout and very understanding of the unique problems affecting my plans and having to delay our original installation date.
With the re-trim complete, it's given me a real boost. Thanks Garry!!!

Phase 2 of Project 991 next...

Mark,

Great little update, thank you for that. I am a massive fan of the old Pepita, (is this also called Houndstooth)? I look forward to the next update!

Hi Tom,

No problem. Thank you!

I'm a massive fan too and IMHO a 911 with cloth seat centres (rather than leather), just looks more like the 911s of my youth! To be precise, Pepita and Houndstooth are actually different patterns but it's become commonplace to call any check fabric 'Houndstooth'. The 356 had a kind of Houndstooth pattern, early 911s had Pepita and I believe the name of the pattern used for the 50th Anniversary/911R seats (and now my car) is 'Vichy' but few people would have recognised that - which is why used 'Pepita' in the thread title. Hope that makes sense :)

Makes perfect sense.

I added Sport-Tex to my 992 for the same reason. (I would post a photo but as per usual the forum won't let me)...

Regards,

Tom

Ahh, posting pictures on forums is one of my pet hates, they all seem to have different procedures.

I now use Post Image (which is free) and share with the forum using their Direct Link option (upload your chosen pics to Post Image, click Share, copy the Direct Link URL and paste that into the Insert Image option on the forum).

Gets around the forum file limits and isn't too onerous to use, even for someone like me, who wasn't spoon fed tech as a child :)

Regards,

Mark
