Throttle valves and springs

Has anyone ever replaced with stiffer springs? Or just replaced with std springs and had an improvement?
I've noticed I need a very slack throttle cable to ensure tps switch is actuated and throttle valve is fully closed... Cable runs smoothly and easily... Thought perhaps a stiffer spring might help.
Side question, has anyone replaced std throttle valve on the turbo with a bigger valve? 56mm at the throat but intake is 62mm

You mean the throttle return spring?

If so, then mine is off one of Blyton Park’s go-carts. Purely because I damaged it messing on at a track day there and borrowed one from the workshop, the proper part is about £32 new so I never bothered to replace it :ROFLMAO:

Plenty of Americans running bigger throttle bodies - question is, are you running enough bhp for that to become a restriction - I’m guessing not? Keith Clement is doing 404bhp on a pretty much stock engine other than big injector, VEMS and a voodoo Turbo - he hasn’t found the throttle body to be a restriction.

Bigger throttle body question is more about making breathing easier than max out bhp. I'm not going to need it purely for bhp limitations!! But also considering it because my 36year old throttle body is possibly a little worn as I have idle screw adjusted closed fully (with a new seal), throttle valve closed fully and still have idle at just over 1krpm even though I'm asking for 850rpm (vacuum is strong)... If I replace the valve I may as well either have it machined or replaced with a bigger valve if possible...
Spring wise, I'll search ebay for a likely candidate...

I can highly reccomend fitting new seals to the OEM throttle body. I gaurantee you the old seals will full to pieces as you remove them. The car will reward you for the effort.

When you say new seals Pete, I assume you mean idle valve seal (brass screw on top of body), rear main seal to inlet manifold. There are no other seals are there? I've taken it apart and cleaned and replaced the above seals. Only thing I've not done is completely dismantled the butterfly valve. Even when 'fully closed' it's possible to see daylight through the butterfly valve rim, so it's not a perfect seal on mine as it is...

No, I mean the complete throttle body including the butterfly assembly. I can't recall now but the butterfly assemnly has a number of small O rings on the shaft, 2 or 4. it is these that you'll find will fall apart as you dis-assemble. The kit supplies two types of O rings here, standard and those that give a better seal for racing, I fitted the racing seals.

Thanks gents helpful. I started to take the butterfly valve apart, but stopped as it looked fidly and I wasn't sure it was worth it. Now I know it is!

Hi Phil

If you buy the kit the instructions are very good. IIRC I covered some of the throttle rebuild in my engine build thread

Yes, I ordered the kit from Arnworx from the very helpful link sent. Only thing is it's from the states again and no international postage option, so I'm just hoping they get in touch and can send it overseas... £15 is a bargain for a service kit for a porsche 944 these days! Even with international postage and import tax on top [:D]. If anyone has the instructions electronically to hand I may start stripping the body down.
As mentioned, I did make a start but found the spring armature to be a very tight fit with what appears to be shim brass to ensure a snug fit, so didn't fancy dismantling that only to find I couldn't re-fit so snugly...

Also had a look and was going to order but as you say they have suspended international shipping options at the moment! Let me know if you manage to get anywhere so I can also order one [;)]

Arnworx have been in touch and offer UPS shipping. It a bit steep compared to the cost of the unit at $30.72, but I guess they could ship 4-5 for that same cost, so if you want one and anyone else wants one, let me know and I can add it to my order before completing, then I can forward on to you when they arrive. import tax will likely be about £3-£4 per unit I suspect...and happy to sort money out once full costs are known for trustworthy types! I'll want to get my order in by the end of the week at the latest.

That is mighty generous of you Phil - happy to send you the item cost / deposit over. Will definitely have one please

Happy to get you a kit too Waylander. Bruce has said he can fit up-to 10kits in one box for the $30 shipping fee, so are there any other takers before I place an order tomorrow? Please note: final payment will be calculated once import and shipping costs are known, so doing this on an honesty system! for the 3 kits so far I reckon it should be roughly £35 each...

hi Phil, i would also appreciate one too!
please send me pm or you n whatsapp message or whatever on 07800646949 and send me your bax or paypal details and i’ll send you payment ??

Daniel

Go for it Waylander, it'll make a few quid difference. I hope you've read the bit about the 968 kit being the hardest to fit [:D]. I'm sure you'll vouch for any orders from the 968 forum members...

I have asked the question on there, told them last day is tomorow to place an order

you think about £30 per kit
