Rear Spoiler deploying ?

So other than stating the obvious - getting someone to follow you! Is there any way to check that the rear spoiler is going up & down properly? I raised mine today to clean the rubber bellows and then didn’t lower it when I took the car out for a little blast round the Vale of Belvoir, when I got back home the spoiler was still in the raised position. From memory even if you manually raise the spoiler it then retrached when the car is driven. Any suggestions much appreciated as always!

thanks Chris

I find that if I raise it, go for a drive, it’s still up when I park. If I then go for another drive without touching the switch (moved my switch to the horseshoe) at some point it goes down!

I have a cab too so can’t see it when driving and too would love a switch with a led that showed if the spoiler was deployed or not.

Thanks - idea of moving the switch is a good one - was that particularly difficult? I think I’ll just have to get someone to follow me re. The spoiler moving!

No, moving the switch was very easy. Probably buying the correct switch was the hardest part because there are parts for RHD and LHD cars (handed differently) and also whether shiny or matt finish. Design911 has them but they aren’t cheap at about £40

You just need to run a cable, 3 core, from the horseshoe down to the fuse box, crimp on 3 spade blade connectors and fit these into the plug taken from the back of the old spoiler switch. The other end has 3 spade receptacles crimped on to fit the terminals in the new switch. If you want lighting you can tap into the lighting feed from the PSM switch above.

Nice thing is the spoiler deployment is ‘one touch’ so if you doubt it’s up, just press the switch and it will deploy ... you have to hold the switch to retract.

I'm sure someone will correct me, but, this is what I thought was the programming:

If you manually raise the spoiler, you will have to manually lower. However:
The spoiler will auto retract though, if, you exceed speeds at which the spoiler would normally activate (74mph isn't it), at which point, a manually raised spoiler, then goes back into 'auto' mode and lowers at 38mph and is 'reset' to the behave normally

No the spoiler at least on mine if manually set to up will remain up and if you want it to return to normal operation will need to hold it till it goes down fully at which point it will be set to normal operation. The idea being you have the option of automatic and being able to drive with it always deployed if you like.

I thought the spoiler if manually deployed would return to the closed position automatically only/or once the target speed had been achieved. So if you go for a little drive but don't reach the target speed then the spoiler will stay in the raised position, however if you achieve the target speed then it reverts to automatic and raises and lowers depending on the road speed/ as needed.

sorry just noticed I have repeated Marks post/ however my spoiler operates as I have described

That must make it a "Mark II" response... (sorry, that was terrible). I believe that you're right but I'm going to independently assess it as well. i.e. any excuse to get out and drive. Is there a difference between 996.1 and 996.2 behaviour?
