Anyone doing the PCGB club trackday at Oulton Park on 22 Sept?

Go for it Dave.! I think that quite a few Cayman 'regulars' on here attend, although the current restrictions could make it more difficult if you're not reasonably local. Like most of the PCGB track days I've attended I'm sure that you'll find it very welcoming, so I wouldn't worry in that respect, and your bright yellow 718 GT4 will be the centre of attention too. Expect to be in demand to give some passenger rides. [;)]

I believe that Oulton's a great driver's circuit, and I've often thought of giving it a go, but since it's a 300 mile round trip for me I'd need to make it a 1 or 2-night stopover which is a bit tricky ATM, even with the late September date.

Jeff,

Hotels are opening. I have hotels from July 8th for Silverstone and all subsequent track days. I do investigate whether they have enough space and generally stay away from larger branded hotels.

As the title says really!

I'm currently considering breaking my Track Day duck and having a run out at Oulton Park on 22 Sept. I've done a plenty of circuit and off-road driving over the years but never a Track Day in my own car, and as Oulton Park is such a great circuit that I know well plus my Lockton insurance covers me for PCGB days, I'm thinking of taking the plunge. I also appear to have exactly the right car for such a day out too [;)] All I need is a helmet.

Just wondering whether any other Cayman owners will be there? Is the atmosphere usually OK for newbies or is it a bit of an old boys clique club?

Any thoughts or opinions gratefully received [:D]

Thanks for that Ralph. Like many people I suspect, I'm struggling to get out of the lock-down mindset and waiting to see how the hospitality industry navigates its way out of the current situation.

I hope, that if spectators are allowed, we might use these track days as an opportunity for a register meet, to support those taking part. I don't suppose it would make much difference to the organisers, but I will contact them beforehand when we know what the situation is.

From Lotus on Track for tomorrow’s day at Castle Combe, may change in future of course.

I can guarantee that you will really love a PCGB open lane trackday at Oulton Park & have done many laps there in my lowly 924S trackday car & as passenger in various Caymans, R's & GT4's ,,both manual,& PDK.

Druids is the corner to watch but it is a brilliant circuit-normally later from mid afternoon, you can find yourself with virtually the track to yourself,as others call it a day.

Yep, the double apex at Druids was my favourite when I drove there many years ago. I think I only used the Fosters circuit that day, do you know if the PCGB day is Fosters/Island/International?

I'm not keen on all the COVID restrictions as it sounds like they may dampen spirits and the social aspects of the day, but I guess they maybe lifted or reduced by late September.

I might look at the Oulton Date not drive there for a long time, I've not done a PCGB trackday how busy do they tend to be, I did a fair Lotus on Track days a few years back and some Javelin days.

Hopefully come September the rules will be a little more relaxed than the LOT one's above!

Paul,

I think you'll find that the Club runs track days with more limited numbers than others; reflected in the price perhaps? Well attended though, and you may have a short wait to get on track at times.

Lotus on Track at Castle Combe today followed all the published instructions. Entrance gate was manned and we were allowed in by name. Temperatures were checked before the track opened. No tables in the cafe and all the outside seating was sectioned off.

I am at Silverstone next week and the circuit’s guide is here, again temperatures being checked and no guests or spectators.

Thanks am happy to pay a premium for a quieter day, sounds good I shall look our for a suitable date and location

If Oulton allow spectators, I may come down if I'm not working. Would be nice to meet up with some members.

Dan,

I have a feeling that spectators aren't allowed at track days at the moment, only drivers and no passengers, although things may change by September. Best to keep an eye out for updates on the Club site.

Jeff
