Alarm Chirp?

Afternoon all,

The alarm on my 986 doesn't make any noise when activating and deactivating the alarm is this standard practice or can the alarm be programmed to have this function on or off.

On previous cars such as my bmw and my range rover I was able to use some software via the OBD port to change the setting. I was just wondering if this was possible before making any purchases.

Many thanks in advance.....

In my experience no boxsters chirp arming and disarming, the only time they chirp is if something is open or not closed properly.

Hi!
You can test your system by leaving your armrest storage box open and locking the car - you should get a single chirp from the horn. If you want to test the actual alarm siren you can disconnect the main battery and the siren should activate if it’s backup battery is still good (you have to leave the key in the ignition in the on position and then disconnect the main battery to avoid this happening). I would suggest you wear earplugs before you try this test!

Its all good I know the system works as I changed the battery recently and it went off and then the other day i lent into the car to get a water bottle while it was locked and the alarm went off. I was just wondering if there's a way to make it chirp when arming and disarming.

Peter,

If it was possible to do it you’d need PIWIS or Porsche equivalent diagnostics to access the system and make the change. Sounds expensive! Any anyway, on my 987.2 the lights flash twice to indicate that the car is locked (more environmentally friendly at night). I’m sure it’s the same on your 986?

Thanks guys, I will probably just leave it for now unless the use of a diagnostic tool becomes available.

Thanks Coz I’ll have a look.

I’m not a huge fan of adding in extra devices tho that could potentially be hacked to access the car.

I was just hoping to reprogram the original alarm settings.
