New (old) owner saying hello & quick question

Hello all.

New to the 996 Register though long time PCGB member. Just migrated across from the 944 community after selling a completed restoration project and buying a 996.2 3.6 C2 Cab in Seal Grey. I was lucky enough to have owned one of these when new (coupe not cab) so it’s a real step back in time for me! Car is in good shape bit needs the usual tidying and although complete s/history hasn’t had the IMS done (94k miles) even though it had a new Sachs clutch in 2018, so I guess it would be wise to get that done.

Couple of quick questions if I may (have had a nose round the forum and not seen any postings on these, so my apologies in advance if there are!):

1. Though no visible loss of coolant (no pools under the car or obvious leaks) it seems to go to around halfway between min-max after its had a decent drive and cooled down. Any thoughts?

2. The rear shelf is missing the two caps that cover the mounting holes for the hardtop. I’ve had a really good look on the usual spares sites and I’m struggling to find these - does anyone know the part number or who stocks them please?

Many thanks and all the best.

Chris

Hello Chris,

I had to replace one of the caps you referenced. I went direct to Cambridge PC. My interior is metropole blue and the PN and description was P99655545700G10 - closure cap. Including postage it was 12 pounds.

Cheers - that’s very helpful to have part no. confirmation. Have tracked a pair down on EBay (mine are black) for a similar price, his last two in stock (they’re obviously something that gets lost a lot!) so should have them soon! Thanks Chris

Hi Chris
The caps are fitted into corresponding holes in the hard top when that is in place, so you might want to check they haven't been left in there before ordering new ones. Unlikely, but worth a try. Mine are black and have the part number 996.555.457.00 on the underside although it looks like you are already sorted.
