Rear Hatch Lock Grommet and OEM speaker issue

Evening everyone

So I had the plan to tinker on the car today and fell down on two of the jobs I was hoping to do. Some help would be gratefully appreciated

Rear hatch lock grommet - is there a quick and easy way of replacing it without taking out the lock itself? My old one has perished and I couldn't tell how to get the lock out to fit it easily. Has anyone done this or a link to a video showing how? I started to undo the mechanism inside, but couldn't see how to remove the lock barrel.

Front door speakers - when I bought my car it had some horrible non OEM speaker in the door, which didn't cut the card, but overly large screws have been used. I've sourced OEM speakers and grills plus bought replacement screws, but they won't hold. Any ideas on how to maybe make the holes smaller or getting longer screws that may hold better?

As you can see neither is a highly technical issue, I'm just reasonably useless at car maintenance!

Thanks in advance

When I replaced the grommet on my 924S,I just removed the old one & manipulated the new one into place around the lock IIRC using some GT85 & a toothpick.

Use some spire nuts over the over size holes
Thanks, I'll now google what a spire nut is and go from there :)

I had hoped that would be the case, I'll give it a proper go next weekend knowing it is possible!

Thanks

OEM Speakers
FRONTS
The front door speakers will never be good in sound quality as the design are elliptical and will lack base response, I went for Alpine's here from memory they 6x4", it will be worth ensuring the door enclosure for the speakers still have a good speaker rubber seals (its a speaker shaped rubber protector that the speaker fits into speaker hole and still available from OPC) the 944's age will allow water into the door cavity and speakers cones are paper construction so will deteriorate over time with damp/water.

REAR
Go as larger diameter speakers as possible, you may find when you remove the rear vinyl panel cards (if you do be aware the door card vinyl fits under the rear Passengers window rubber and you may think using a blade is best to remove the door card but actually the vinyl is a part of the door card fitment). You may find Porsche may have fitted a wooden speaker mounting panel which then fits on the cars body. If you can go as large as possible here as round speakers are "the bigger the better" plus high Peak wattage too that the head end can deliver, plus big magnets as any money spent here is more cost effective comparing the fronts elliptical lacks.

Also, here it will be worth fitting heavy duty sound deadening sheets to the rear car panels beneath the area where the speaker sits, it will improve the speaker sound, I was quite surprised as the test I tapped the car body with one side sound deadened to the other side not done.

Finally, something which is overlooked is the 1)cabling and 2) Speaker movement...... you can use the original porsche (but it will be worth checking continuity of speaker cables as it may have been got at by previous attempts to fit Radio/CD and now DAB over the many years of upgrades but at risk of being poorly done, (the earth and signal +ve may be switched is easy to achieve) just ensure "what is earth" goes to the same speaker "negative terminal" although they may be marked -ve on the speaker ensure it is checked by just dabbing cables from a 1.5volt battery directly to each speaker (here without the Head End connected) that the speaker cones all move in the same direction "ie out" this will ensure too with different makes of speakers will move in the same direction with +ve signal from the Amp so hence they all move in the same direction, so there's 2 things worth checking 1) the car cables eliminate that speakers haven't +ve and -ve cables swapped to one or more speakers or 2) the speaker -ve may make the speaker move in all the same direction here, as if not speakers will be out of phase to the other speakers and will lack sound quality as a result and will be disappointing but it may be caused by a swapped speaker cables or the wrong speaker terminals on the speakers moving in the wrong direction too.

Like all things cabling and volts, just ensure your able too attempt and have good basic knowledge plus the right tools too, if not use an auto electrician to check and resolve, but if you understand where errors may due and you think you have poor audio quality its possible because of switched earth and signal cables your sound system may suddenly spring to life and sound far better.
