Drivers Door Loud Wind Noise??

Nick,

That sounds like the correct glass-setting procedure. Does the driver's window actually drop the same amount as the passenger's window when you open the door?

There are quite a few micro-switches which monitor door handle, window position, etc., and it could be that one of them or perhaps the window regulator is faulty. Impossible to check without stripping down the door, although a Porsche-specific diagnostic check could help isolate the problem.

Good morning one and all

Guys and Gals, I have a loud wind noise coming from the drivers door, I conducted a small simple test by using some green frog tape placed the tape on the glass inline with the doors seal, and noticed when the door was opened and the glass had dropped, on the passenger side there is roughly 5mm space from the very edge of the glass to the top of the masking tape, however the drivers side has no space at all, initial thoughts were that perhaps the door had dropped but there is no strike marks on the latch, and I then tried the glass re set, glass all the way down holding the switch down for 15 secs, and all the way up for 15 secs, this doesn't seem to have worked either that assuming I have the glass re set sequence correct?

Any thoughts anyone on this??

Regards

Nick

HI Jeff

Measuring from the centre of the glass to the top edge on both doors, the drivers side reads 330mm and the passenger side is 322mm??

is that the correct place to measure? or is there a better way Jeff?

Kind Regards

Nick

Nick,

From the measurements you've given I presume that they're for the windows in the fully open position? I was referring to the fact that when you open the door the window should drop by 5mm or so and remain in that position for a few seconds when the door is closed (to allow cabin air to escape), after which it should rise to the fully-closed position. If this function is working correctly on the driver's door it's possible that the door limit sensors aren't set correctly - the 8mm difference between your measurements seems to indicate that this may well be the case.

Unfortunately I can't give you any guidance as the fault could be with a micro-switch or the window regulator.

If you fancy a bit of DIY investigation this recent link could be useful:

Good Morning Jeff

I see, clearly I mis-understood you, judging from the measurements I carried out its quite clear that there is a definite concern in relation to the drivers door glass, interestingly you mention about the sensor setting I have heard that there are different settings one for the Boxster and one for the Cayman perhaps the drivers door has been programmed for the Boxster, I do know that the door card on the drivers side has been taken off at some point.

I will take it to my local Porsche approved body shop for the guys to adjust and diagnose, I will report my findings as it might be interesting to read for other members of the club.

Thanks Jeff for all your kind advice

Kind Regards

Nick

Nick,

It would be good to hear if you manage to resolve the problem. It’s a bit suspicious to hear that the door card has been removed though.

Maybe it’s possible to reprogram the window limits with the appropriate diagnostics without needing to strip-down the door?

Hi, apologies if I have missed some of the finer details....just skim browsing whilst working..shhhh

I have stumbled across some Window reset procedures for 991 and suspect they would be worth trying. Just google ‘porsche 991 reset window’.

hope you get it sorted this way or another.

cheers,

A

Hi Guys & Gals

Adrian I will try that, thank you for taking the time to reply its most appreciated.

Kind Regards

Nick

Spot on Adrian, did this about 4 times, wind noise now gone:

Resetting window switch on 991 lower the window all the way down and release the switch.push the switch down, hold it there for 3 seconds, and then release.raise the window all the way and release the switch.pull the switch up, hold it for 3 seconds, and then release.turn car off and then back on.[/ol]
