All hail the AA

Hello all. I hope everyone is fine and managing to get on with the lockdown. Hopefully there will be a little more relief next week with the car showrooms opening, which might allow me to get back to work.

The 997 last came out a couple of weeks ago when I brought Sue home off the back of her double shift. Put it away as normal, or so I thought, and came to use it again last week only to find a completely flat battery (emergency boot unlock and all that). It turned out that I hadn't switched off the dash cam which is plugged in to the always live 12v socket. Two attempts to boost start her didn't work so I left it on the CTek until Sunday and it had come up to 13.2v so should have been enough to start. As soon as the Ctek came off the volts dropped to 9.5v and the booster wouldn't get it to turn over.
Called the AA today and they were out within 30 minutes. Two goes at getting her started finally worked but the battery wasn't holding its charge so a new Bosch was put in. The dead one was only three years years old but my mistake had done for it good and proper. Half an hour later and a quick trip round the block to reset the traction control warning messages and all was well.
I have breakdown warranty so it only cost me £35 excess for a battery costing £75-80 plus the aggro of getting it, fitting it and then disposing of the old one.
So back up and running to ferry Sue to and from work this week. Lessons learned? Switch off the dash cam like I always have done.

Take care everyone.

Glad to hear your battery is sorted, Paul and you may be able to get back to work soon.
Well done Sue as always for her hard work.
Make sure you both keep well [:)] ... hope to see you again soon.

I’ve just bought a battery that seems too big for my 3.2 Targa. It sits over the drilled hole for the clamp, but there’s another hole further forwards. That’s too far forwards for the clamp, so I need a new longer clamp, another drill hole, or to send the battery back. However, I got impatient and took the car for a brief spin with the battery wedged in. Not sure what to do now!! I might be selling a battery, used once, one previous owner only!!!

Mark, if you can get the right length battery would presumably be best, but fabrication of an extended bracket is possible if you have the means?... sorry stating the obvious, really [:)]
Haven’t got anything around that could do that at the moment, otherwise I could help...

Needs to be properly locked in (excuse the pun) with minimal room for movement and (if it has one) make sure it’s vented.
