987.1 CS AC condenser replacement advice

Good morning all - just after some advice wrt replacing my RHS AC condenser. The system has been de-gased so all safe to disconnect and replace, but my question is do I need to, or should I, replace the dessicator/dryer at the same time? Additionally would there be any benefit in replacing the LHS AC condenser event though its still functional; taking the front bumper off is a phaff and I would like to minimse extra work!
Any other helpful advice would be extremely welcome.

Thanks in advance

Rob

Rob,

Although it's all additional expense, while you have the front PU off I would have thought it wise to replace both condensers, otherwise you may have to go through the whole procedure again in the near future. While the system is degassed I would also have thought it sensible to replace the dessicator/dryer, especially on an older car like yours since it may not have ever been replaced. Maybe you can source a kit with all the A/C components, O-rings, etc. at a reduced price?

Jeff

Agree with Jeff

One of mine (LHS) had a stone impact meaning a slight leak - I had both sides replaced and new drier and o-rings/seals.

Problem put to bed in my opinion and I haven't had to worry about it since.

Fitted Zunsport grilles as soon as I got it home, and I only had the work done on day 4 of ownership [:D]

Thats over 3 years ago now.

Thanks for the response James

I have ordered a pair of LED spars to fit once the new condensers are fitted primarily as preventative maintenance.

Front PU off, left and right condensers off, radiators hoovered/ cleaned and front fogs off in preparation for the LED Spars. I can’t believe how much grid has built up!!!!!

Good progress MoscowRed

Its amazing how much rubbish accumulates.

I've got Zunsport Grilles on mine now and I don't get anything like the build up now.

In fact I've only removed the grilles once in 3 years to have a tickle up since.

James

I will be fitting the LED Spars from PCA this weekend which should aid in reducing the build up. I did notice that the knackered condenser‘s date was 25/02/08 which indicates this was the original component - if I get another 10-12 years out of the new condensers I will be happy

Rob

You won't regret doing all you can, both rads and all the other parts as advised above. I followed their advice some years back!

The grills are superb and I think all this being done with the grills actually add a lot to the car's value.

Did all mine 2 years ago, all ok.

Worth looking round for parts as prices for the same parts vary, some carry a LOT OF Porsche tax..

The re-charge can be pricey because you need the non-green fluid.

Tks Hill Climber

non-green fluid? I was just going to take it to the local garage for a refill. I did notice a green residue when I took the old condensers off.

Thanks Jeff

i was pretty much under the misunderstanding that it was one refrigerant for all. I now know what to check for when getting the system re-filled

Rob

Condensers in, dessicater on and LED Spars fitted - next stop air con re-gas. Thanks for your advice peeps!!
