Evening all. Just reading the latest update on 2021 model year changes and noticed that Sport Chrono now includes Tyre Temperature display. Does anyone know if this can be ’enabled‘ by the OPC on 2020 model year cars?

I can't see how this can be incorporated into the Sports Chrono option. However, I believe it is now becoming available as an addition to TPM on higher end models and am assuming it requires additional sensors and readout, so would be difficult to retrofit, but in all fairness, I suspect only a PC will be able to tell you.
Regards,

Clive

Thanks Clive. I kind of guessed there could be some additional hardware on the tpms side along with an update to the software.

Probably of no help to you atm, but it appears if you were to spec Sports Chrono in your 2021 car, this would now include tyre temperature monitoring. So it's being included within that overall package.
However, I don't believe it can be retrofitted to earlier cars because of the additional hardware, but it would be worth checking with your PC when it reopens.
Regards,

Clive

Whilst a tyre temperature display would be a nice to have, I find that TPM gives you a pretty good indication of the tyre temperature. As you drive so the pressures rise and with experience you soon have a good idea of the grip levels available if not the actual temperature. It's interesting to note how quickly the pressures drop when you are in heavy rain!

Slightly surprising that temperature has not been built in from the start - my third party TPMS I installed on my 993 about 10 years ago has temperature included. Once you have hardware for the wireless comms adding a temperature sensor is a very minor add-on. I had same system on one of my daily cars a few years ago and that helped me spot a brake problem before it became a breakdown (one tyre overheating because brake binding).
