Esso Card Fuel

Hi

Have any of you guys taken advantage of the Esso card that is available with this membership.

I have and have used for the first time today!

HOWEVER!!! I may be being a little pedantic here but, the minimum Ron on my filler cap says 98 but esso super is only 97 while Shell provide 99.

I appriciate 1 Ron isnt much but standard Fuel is only 95 so this must make a differance.

So if it really matters, why have PCGB colaborated with esso when the fuel doesnt suit our cars?

What are your thoughts.

If you type "Esso Fuel Card" into the search box you will find lots of thoughts on here already.[:)] Personally, I stick with Shell.

Hi

I have done a quick search but all they talk about is Bio-ethanol?
Is this a considoration in a 2018 car?

Cant find anything about the actual ron rating

Not an issue in your car, it's only really a consideration on air-cooled and transaxle cars due to the materials used in their fuel system being incompatible with bio-ethanol.
Regarding octane rating, Esso Supreme Plus is 97 and if I remember correctly, V-Power and Ultimate are 98 - and Tesco Momentum is 99...

Hi Chris

You are correct on the octane ratings.

However does that mean Esso fuel is no good for my car with it stating 98 on the filler flap?

I'm sure your engine management system will make the necessary adjustments to compensate for the lower octane rating, thus preventing any harm - but by the same token, it'll also make good use of higher rated fuel, maximising power output. Your car probably requires 98 octane to produce the advertised power output.
The reason I use Supreme Plus in my Carrera 3.2 is purely down to the zero bio-ethanol content - too many air-cooled 911's have finished their lives in a ball of flames due to fuel system erosion caused by using incompatible fuel...

I have been using it in my 997 for several months and never had an issue . I did read quite a bit on this and even though it states 97 on the pump it's actually the correct rating , other fuels have additives. This was rather perplexing at the time because Esso who supply Tesco , their 99 is full of additives and Esso supreme is badged as 97 with less additives . There is a good explanation on this site on the forum . I have never used Tesco 99 but there is certainly no power, mpg difference with shell v max apart from the price of course.
