PCM1 question

Hello

Has anyone experienced the navigation system constantly displaying "Initializing navigation system"? I believe its a PCM 1.
I pick up the car today having purchased it privately and the navigation just gave the above message all the way home - 1.5hrs.
Any advise would be welcome - thank you.

Graham

Hello Graham,
did you try another CD ?
I had also the navigation faulty since the beginning, and one day...battery changed, and... Navigation now works perfectly! Maybe disconnect the battery worth a try (care the alarm !!!).
Pierre.

Thanks Pierre,

I will pull the fuse and see if that helps re-set it somehow. I dont have another CD, just the one that came with the car.

Haha - yes, I have both codes. Strange thing though, couldn't identify a fuse for the navigation unit. Pulled the PCM fuse, radio fuse and the sound system fuse, but the navigation unit never lost power.

I have a slightly more pressing coolant leak now to contend with.... Seems to be coming from the drivers side radiator area. Need to find a guide for investigating this further. The documentation tht came with the car indicates that both radiators were changed in late 2018 so I would be surprised if they have gone already.

Just want to say great job on the technical help guides (especially Min Chew) that are available here! Very useful as I had to change the OS radiator which had failed. Surprising given it was only 15 months on the car. Now my new (old) car is not wetting the garage floor any more.

Thanks Richard. I have removed all the fuses with no change. I have even removed and disconnected both the PCM unit and the navigation unit but to no avail. So I am assuming the navigation unit is faulty. I know that’s it’s pretty useless even if it does work, but it bothers me when I know something isn’t working. If at some point i Get chance to borrow another CD then I will try that, but I can’t see anything wrong with mine at least.

Graham,

I seem to recall someone posting on this matter quite recently on these forums? I think one of the respondents had used this company with success:

https://www.pcmrepairs.co.uk/

Maybe worth a try if you don't manage to fix it yourself?

Jeff

You can also try Maple Audio in Bath.

If a PC will read the disk, try copying it. Burn the copy onto a CD-R at the slowest speed you can. PC drives tend to be less fussy than the navigation drives. If you can't read it on a PC, I have copies of some PCM1 disks, and could upload an image of one for you to burn. PM me with your email address if I can help.

Thanks Richard.

I have tried your suggestion of making a copy of the navigation disc. I was able to do that, however, same result. I just get the constant message "Initializing navigation system".

I will give one of the repair shops a call and see what they suggest.

Many thanks

Graham
