944 Turbo Starts then Dies

Hi All
Took the old girl out today for a spin to get fuel - was pretty low ! About a mile from the house she ran out of fuel - or so I thought ! I got 10 litres and put them in

Car started but after 2secs died out - I put this down to fuel needing primed - got my brother in law to tow me back again - on the way back I clutched out and let the engine go with the car hoping to prime her

Still no joy so took out the DME relay and run a jumper from 30 to 87b to run the pump for 90 secs ! Put in another DME still no good !

What the Symptoms are
Car cranks - no rev counter bounce
Car fires - cuts out after 2 seconds

What has been carried out
Fuel primed
DME relay exchanged

What I'm going to carry out Tommorrow if I get any peace is a test lamp to fuel pump fuse -
if the lamp goes out after I let go of the key this will point to the RPM sensor

If it stays lit it's either the fuel filter, pump or regulator need to be looked into

Am I correct in saying that the fuel pump cuts out if there is no signal from the RPM sensor ?

She does fire which tells me that the reference sensor is okay ?

Thanks a million in Advance lads

I would be looking at the sensors too....start with the two multi plugs behind the head. Unplug and clean the terminals....they could have oxidised during the damp momths...also these plugs get brittle due to them living in a very hot enviroment, resulting in them coming undone.

Thanks a million lads for your replies ! I checked both connections at the top of the engine first and nothing untword foun

I took out the DME relay and put in 2 test leds- one on the DME and injector output and the other to the fuel pump !

I cranked her over and as expected the fuel pump was lit while the starter was active ! The car fired and I expected a stall and lamps to go out ! Well she kept going !

Now I kept the towing eye in place and got a tow rope and went for a spin ! The day was fab, roads were quiet due to the lockdown and all was forgiven !

My suspicion is now bad connection around the fuse box as me putting the wire in sling with the DME might have been enough !

At this age now electrical gremlins will become a feature even if the car is dry stored ! I do have a small suspicion that this might not be the end just yet ! Might be worth stripping the fuse box and taking the layers apart perhaps ??

I 'll keep yous posted !
