Extended warranty costs & info when you can add/purchase + just how good is it?

Hi folks,

I'm edging closer to an order but am still keeping an eye on used 992 C4S for sale. In case one with a suitable spec appears

One question I have is. Do you know if it's possible to purchase or add an extra 2 years warranty onto a new car when you order in or on a nearly new car?

In the back of my mind is I'd maybe buy the extra cover now and save on an increase later on due to inflation

A pal said he purchased another 2 years warranty for around £2300 when his 991 hit 3 years old. This seems a reasonable cost. Is anyone else able to give me a guesstimate cost?

I'm also wondering is the extended warranty or used car warranty truly as good as a used cars warranty?

Thanks for help

Purchasing new, you will receive a total of a 3 year warranty (2 years direct with the manufacturer and 1 year extended (insurance backed), the cost of the latter is included in the purchase price. Demonstrators and used vehicles from a PC usually carry 2 year dealer cover.

After 3 years, it is open for you to purchase extended warranty for 1 or 2 years, subject to the PC's 111 point examination. The cost depends upon the model, but you can obtain this from Porsche's UK website.

I do not believe it is possible to purchase ahead for a period of more than 2 years or without this dealer inspection. Also, if you are buying privately and without warranty, you will need to have owned the car for a minimum of 6 months before you can apply for PEW.

I'm pretty certain the Porsche Factory Warranty is 3 years now. Extended Warranty can't be bought much before the current warranty ends, you have a choice of 12 and 24 months, also to add Porsche Assistance if wanted. Not sure about 911 prices but my BGTS was circa £1500 for 24 months including the (required) 111 point check before the warranty is bought. If you get the check done during the last month of existing warranty then any problems found should be covered under warranty. The Porsche Extended Warranty is pretty much as comprehensive as a new car warranty, and certainly better than any independent warranty. If you buy an Approved Used car it usually comes with a 24 month warranty.

My OPC quoted me for 992 Extended warranty of £1840 for two years or £1020 for one. If you purchase it in the first year after car registration you don't have to pay for the 111 point check (£216 plus the cost of addressing anything that the check picks up). The additional cost for the breakdown cover is £285 for two years and £175 for one.
My experience of the warranty is pretty good, although there are anecdotal signs that Porsche is tightening up.
I am thinking of extending before my car is a year old to avoid the cost of the check and risk of inflation.

I've just renewed my extended warranty on the turbo ( now 10 years old!) I do it for two years at a time and renew at the same time as the 2 year service and, thus, the 111 is done at no cost. The renewal was just over £1800 ( I also have Porsche Assist which bumps it up a bit)
As part of the check this time they found leaking cross over pipes which were replaced under warranty (c£1600) and last year 2 rear springs (£1000?). Both of these needed a 4 wheel alignment ( another £300) So in the last 2 year period I'm quids in!
Over the 8 year period, since the original warranty expired, this has always been the case - and that's without anything really serious going wrong.

That 10 years flew by Alan ( no joke intended)
seems like yesterday you bought the 997TT
agree with you on the OPC warranty
