Doors locked!

Hi all, I need some advice please. I can't unlock the doors of my 996 (C4S 2004). Haven't driven it for 3 weeks. Tried both key fobs and when I insert the key it turns left and right but no sound and the door remains locked. The alarm light is flashing as normal. Is there another way to gain access ??

Sounds like your battery is completely flat and deadlocked the car. You need to get access to the boot/engine. There is a manual way and won't explain here, but search online or contact indie. You will need to provide power on the positive post (top right of engine behind flap) and earth to body/engine. This will allow you to open door. Hope that helps.

Have you had the driver's door lock replaced recently? If so, it sounds like the blade on the end of the key barrel isn't engaged in the lock assembly. It is a common mistake when refitting the lock.

The lock barrel should unlock the door mechanically, even if the battery was flat, although if the LED is flashing it can't be completely flat. I suspect that something is broken in the lock mechanism. The snag is that to wake the car up from sleep mode (so the remote will unlock it) you need to turn the key in the ignition. Even using the emergency release cables for the front or rear lid won't do that, so you are in a Catch 22. I would have a word with a good indy or OPC to see what they do under the circumstances. I can't think of a way myself, without breaking something.

With my 2002 Targa 3.6, if the car goes into sleep mode after 5 days, i press the unlock button on the key remote, if it does not open, i put the key in the drivers door lock, turn it clockwise then anti-clockwise, remove it, this resets the key and you can open/close with the remote again. I do not have to open a door or get in the car. Thought all are the same?

Hi, thanks for all the advice. I spoke to my local Indie yesterday and he thinks i have no option but to break-in to the car - he agrees i need to get the key into the ignition. This seems a bit extreme but I take onboard all you have said above. It makes it worse that the hardtop is on, as it could have made it a little easier gaining access to the door handle. I'll have a go at the weekend and let you all know hoe I get on...

I may be incorrect but I thought that if you can gain access to the boot via the emergency cable. Then disconnect the battery & reconnect it, that will cancel the sleep mode and you should be able to open via remote.
Then fix the door lock issue, I'm sure there are a number of cars out there with broken locks unbeknown to the owner, as it's not the normal way of unlocking the car, so always worth a check before this sort of thing happens.
Good luck
Andy

What I am going to suggest may not work if the key blade is not connecting but if Andy's idea doesn't work, then it might be worth trying anyway before having to break glass!
When my 996 goes to sleep after 5 days I put the key in and slowly turn it clockwise until I see the passenger door light come on, holding the key at that position the drivers window then lowers and I can put the key into the ignition to turn off the alarm before opening door with key. Obviously you will need to get some power into the battery first. If everything still fails why not try phoning a main dealer, they should be able to advise over the phone if they can get in without breaking anything, even if you have to get the car trailered to the dealer.
Are you not in the AA or similar with a home start policy? If so they will probably assist, even if it means them taking the car to a main dealer.
Good luck.

Hi all,
I thought I would update you all on my efforts to gain entry to the car. It has been a few weeks since I tried anything, mainly due to adjusting to working from home!
Anyway, I am in! I took Andy's advice and found the Bonnet release cable - behind the O/S headlight - very tricky and painful to reach but got it eventually from underneath the car. After that, it was easy to disconnect the battery and charge it for a good 48 hours. Just re-connected it and the doors opened with the key fob. Now to get the lock repaired.
Thanks so much for all your advice, really glad I didn't have to break the window.
