964 Wheel advice

Hello All

A friend of mine has just bought a 964, which he is very pleased with.

He would like some bigger wheels as the standard ones look a little small, see attached. I guess these are 16" can anyone recomend a larger size wheel that does not make the ride worse, or is he sensible to just stick to the orginal wheels for a better ride?

Typically (these days) it's 17" Cup 1's or Cup 2's. Either way, genuine ones big money. Plenty of replicas around. 18's may be too much and a tad harsh (for UK pot-filled back roads at least).

A nice set of 17" Cup 1's look just right on the 964, they do fetch good money for genuine porsche ones, look for the correct part numbers on the rear. Plenty of copies so watch out when buying.

They look like Cup 'type' wheels, (possibly a copy, as has been alluded to already).

Didn't they offer a 16" Cup wheel for a time, too, or am I making that up?

You can guess that the wheels on your friends car are 17" Cup 1, closer inspection especially of the numbers printed on the inside spokes will tell if they're Porsche or OEM

Thanks for all your replys and all the info. So are we saying you think these are 17" wheels that is on the car as standard as these look small.

I don’t know what they are that are currently fitted, but they do indeed look small.
From past experience, 17” Cup 1s, 7" or 7.5" fronts and 9” rears work a treat; take a look at a picture of a 964 RS America to see how they should be.
It doesn’t matter if you use a set of original Porsche Cup 1s (very pricey) or a set of TuV approved replicas (surprisingly cheap), the best examples of which are somewhat confusingly branded as Cup 1s! Sincerest form of flattery and all that!

You can buy Cup 1 replicas from Design 911, they also sell Fuchs replicas as well

The wheels you have are Genuine Porsche cup wheels in 16", quite rare really. The ones on the ebay link and 993 Genuine Porsche cup 16" wheels.

17" cup wheels are you best option, either genuine or repro, depends on your budget!

I've never heard of 16" Cup 1's but I learn something new every day.

However it is so easy to find out, just read the numbers on the tyre, that will tell you.
