Happy Friday all

so I plan to take my steering wheel off to have it recovered by royal

after I’ve disconnected the battery and removed the steering wheel would you reconnect the battery or leave it unplugged until it’s ready to go back on

thank you

If you connect the battery without a wheel fitted it will bring on the light which will need to be reset by diagnostics, leave it off until wheel is back on and your happy with the position

In a 997 you can't open the bonnet without battery power. The normal procedure is to pull out the small power pole from inside the fuse box. Attach a positive charge from something like a jump pack to the power pole and earth it on the door opening mechanism at the front of the door. Details are in the handbook.

The safest thing to do is what we do when we get cars through the auctions with flat batteries and that is not to close the bonnet. Better still use a soft piece of wood to wedge in to prevent any accidental closure.

Word of warning , the red power pole won't work if you have disconnected your battery. There is a mechanical release inside the inner NS wing. You need to remove the plastics to gain access. I would check that it's there first though .
