Porsche carbon folding bucket seats ?

Hi all ,

ive had my 981 cayman s for over a year now and really do enjoy it . It has all the spec I want ... except the very rare option of the carbon backed bucket seats ( ones that you can fold ) . I’ve been on the look out for a cayman s/ or gts with them but given up . Also the cost to change car if one came up wouldnt really make sense .

Ive has a quote from Porsche to supply and fit said seats ... 7k ! Ouch ! But I’m seriously considering it ( am I mad ?)

Do these seats ever come up for sale ? If so how much do they go for ?

My line of reasoning is that I could buy these seats for 7k .... when I sell the car on put my sports plus seats back in and sell the buckets on .

any thoughts and any info would be much appreciated

thanks
josh

ah thanks for the link :)

not really much difference in price from buying from Porsche direct !

porsche quoted £7017 fully fitted .... what could I expect to get back for them when I sell them on ? Maybe 4.5k ?

I know Carnewal do them. Not sure about price but rest assured they are expensive I have them in my Caymen R

Josh,

If it's just about driving enjoyment rather than "the look", why not just buy the driver's seat? As you say, you could then sell it on when you sell the car. Maybe an after-market Recaro seat would be a cheaper bet?

If you joined the Club you would also get a 10% discount.

Hi Jeff

Its for both driver enjoyment and looks if I’m being honest . Makes it look / feel like a proper sports car in my opinion . So would buy both .

yes that’s with a Porsche club discount added . Yes I’ll be paying membership later on today :)

whats people’s thoughts on what they are worth 2nd hand ? Presume there would also be interest in them for the 991 911 lot ?

thanks , I’ll try him also :)

Understood Josh. I wouldn't think that you'd have a problem selling them on provided they were in good condition - £2.5 to £3k maybe, but that's just an uneducated guess.

I believe that they'd fit in a 991, but you'd need to check the part numbers for compatibility.

Jeff

Thanks for people’s input , much appreciated.

Is there a market for sports plus seats 2nd hand ? If so , what could I expect to get for my mint set ? That’s the other option I guess , sell those to offset the cost of the buckets

Sports seats plus wasn’t an expensive option so maybe £500 used resale? personally if I was desperate I’d get the carbon backed then refit sports seats come sale time and hang onto yer buckets

Ah ok

then makes a lot more sense to refit the sports plus seats when selling the car .

I've had the folding buckets (and 918s) and only found them comfortable for short periods, not for longer trips. And, as a passenger, my wife never liked them. They are quite upright.

So, it's not a given that they suit everyone. And what are the benefits of 'folding' in a Cayman? There's no adjustability to the backrest..

Went to my local opc today and sat in a gt3 with the folding Carbon seats in ...

Im really disappointed:(

loved what they looked like but didn’t fit my body shape . I’m long in body / shorter legs , wide shoulders. Done some measuring and they sit higher than my sports plus seats . My shoulders were too pushed forward . Bit gutted as they are such a good looking sporty seat .

Look on the bright side. You've just saved yourself £7k!

yes that’s one way of looking at it :)

now need to decide if I’d like the gts Front bumper on .... the other feature I really like on the gts compared to the S model .

Sorry should have updated this .... I did end up buying the Porsche sports carbon bucket seats ... made a back pad to go behind the leather , to gain a little more support on my lower back . Made all the difference and find then very comfortable now ! I sprayed the head rest plastics in white to match my car and love them ! Also bought the aero kit from Porsche ( gts front /rear basically) and had that all fitted . The car is how I want it now :)

So have a mint set of sports plus seat available and mint condition front bumper inc fogs / grills etc .... if anyone is looking for one
