Quick question - 996 not starting - clutch switch operation?

I've been helping a pal try to get his 996 started - it's a long story - more later

QQ though, the clutch switch, if it was faulty, would the engine turn but not fire? Or does it inhibit the starter? I guess the former as if in gear the car would jump forward on the starter

All the electrics in his car are working, all the dash lights come on, but the starter doesn't turn. Battery is new and fully charger

I had problems with the switch on my Boxster and disabled it a very long time ago

Many thanks, Richard

Thanks Andy. Story is the car has had issues and the ECU had been replaced. All the electrics seemed okay and we'd checked the B1 fuse. My pal has a Durametric and the error codes were limited to Litronics and seat lumber support. Long and short of it is the ECU was sent back to be coded against the key and the car started first turn of the key. Other than looking at these codes, the ABS light is coming on (but we couldn't get any error codes from Durametric).

So delighted the car is running after 18 months and some further issues to sort out. Thanks for your words of wisdom (and if you have any knowledge of ABS issues I'd be most grateful)

Richard

Richard,

Re the ABS fault, maybe a corroded ABS ring or wheel sensor problem, although I've a feeling that you may need something more sophisticated than the Durametric kit to check out the latter - PIWIS?

Incidentally, you may want to take a look at this Club forum link from way back:

An ABS warning light linked to a MAF problem? All very counter-intuitive.!
