996 steering angle sensor problems.

Good evening everyone,
I am looking for some technical assistance. I have acquired a 996 Turbo (2004 MY) and it is missing a steering angle sensor. I have acquired the sensor, and upon fitting it in place on the steering column under the dash, it doesn't seem to have a visible method of locating it in place, and it also seems to be a very loose fit over the steering column shaft, and feels like there is something missing, so I can't see how it could sense where the steering is pointing. The electrical connection is fine and plugs in ok. I understand the sensor will need calibrating once in place correctly, and therefore I will need a durametric system to do this. Does anyone know anything about how this sensor should be correctly located and also does anyone have a durametric "professional" system, or other diagnostic equipment they would be willing to plug in and calibrate my sensor. I would of course be willing to pay a reasonable fee for the use of their durametric and their time. They would need to come to me as the car is not yet registered with the DVLA (Australian import). I can't register it until it is MOT'd, and I can't do that until I get the abs light off! I am in Bristol BS31.

Hi. I had a steering rack replaced and was faulty. Took car to another special to find this out and car was dangerous to drive as PSM kicked in. Steering Angle reset was only £45+VAT and apparently generates a unique code each time as is a major safety feature. I’ve found my local specialist is v good value for money and know what they are doing

I've finally managed to resolve this issue. Although I had the correct steering angle sensor, the inner plastic ring was missing. I ordered this and the sensor was fitted by myself without trouble. I then managed to get a durametric professional cable from a supplier in Germany for slighty less than I could direct from Durametric themselves. Resetting the steering sensor was a straight forward process from there. ABS and psm light now extinguishing when they should.
