Brake Lights and Spoiler

Hello forum-ites,

It's a request for help. I have a 1999 911 C2 and the brake lights have stopped working. They flicker now and again, but nothing more than that. In addition to this the spoiler seems to have stopped auto deploying at the same time. The only event I can tie this back to is having the car washed by the local hand washers who love their pressure washers.

Does anyone know what this could be related to and the fix please? Happy to cross the palm of my local garage but if I can solve it I'd rather have that satisfaction.

Please help;

Thanks for the info Andy - switch ordered.

The spoiler does go up and down on the switch in the footwell, just not automatically. Any clues on that?

Cheers

Dan
All I know is the operation is controlled by a speed signal given to the instrument cluster circuitry and the ABS control module, which in turn controls the relays to open/close.
The cluster circuitry monitors operating time of the spoiler and cuts power from the drive motor to prevent damage if not deployed within time frame.
Could be damage to one of the speed / abs sensors or excessive water ingress.
If Richard sees this he may have better info for you.
Best of luck

I think you covered it pretty well Andy. The spolier relays are switched by the instrument cluster, which gets its speed signal from the ABS. However, I would have thought you would get an ABS/PSM warning if an ABS sensor was the problem.

I would start by checking the relays, microswitch and motor connections.

Hi Richard,
Thanks for your advice. The brake pedal switch has arrived so I'll fit that this weekend and see what happens thereafter. Currently lack of brake lights is the big issue and the spoiler can be fixed at my leisure.

Thanks,

Dan

So, I have added Porsche technician to my CV [:)] Yes I fixed it thanks to the fantastic advice on this forum. Thank you all.

Against the odds replacing the brake light switch has rectified the spoiler issue too, which is a surprise.

Well, happy days, and thanks again to Andy, Richard and last but absolutely not least... Min Chew who created the .pdf.

Hi Dan.
Glad its all now sorted and a simple repair.
That's modern electronics for you as the brake light switch not only sends power to the brake light like in the 1960s but it also send signals to ABS,PSM.& more.
Thanks for your feedback as I'm sure it will be useful for others.
Regards
Andy
